Texans vs. Vikings Odds

The Minnesota Vikings return to action to this week, as they look to keep pace with the NFC North with a big win over the Houston Texans at home on Sunday. The Vikings come in off their bye week, but really suffered a tough loss in their previous game against the Bears, where they fell 41-48. The Texans on the other hand have responded well after going 0-4 to start the season, as they have racked off 3 straight wins. The Texans go back on the road for the first time in 4 weeks, where they have yet to come out on top this season. The oddsmakers play right along with that trend, as the Vikings come in 4.5 point favorites over the Texans.
The Texans made sure there was no let down against the Bengals, as they jumped on the board early and often for a 35-6 win. Their continues to look like there is no stopping the duo of Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, as they hooked 11 times for 143 yards. Johnson is the leading receiver in the league, and as long as both him and Schaub stay healthy, they are going to put up some big numbers this season. Steve Slaton led the way on the ground rushing for 53 yards and a score, and the Texans also got another good performance out of Kevin Walter, as he hauled in 5 catches for 70 yards and 2 scores.
The defense did its part making sure that the Bengals had no hope of winning this game from the start, and after giving up two field goals in the first half, the defense gave up nothing the rest of the way. They gave up just a little over a 100 yards on the ground and another 155 through the air, but there was no question the defense had this one under control. This week they get the joy of trying to stop Adrian Peterson, who is due for a breakout game, but if they stop him they pretty much stop the whole Vikings offense.
The Vikings easily had their biggest offensive outburst of the season scoring 41 points against the Bears, and if it wasn’t for poor special teams play they likely would of walked away with the win. Now you know Adrian Peterson hasn’t been anywhere his rookie form, when the Vikings offense averages just under 80 yards a game on the ground. Last week Peterson looked a little more like the back were use to, as he ran it 22 times for 121 yards and 2 scores. Gus Frerotte really hurt the offense with 4 interceptions, as the offense continues to be plagued by their quarterback play, but one bright spot is Bernard Berrian continues to emerge as the go to receiver as he hauled in 6 catches for 81 yards and a score, and now has 322 yards and a score in each of his last 3 games.
There aren’t many that would of though it would be even possible to put up 40 on the Vikings defense going into the season, but with a little help from the offense and special teams, they nearly gave up 50 to a Bears offense that many consider in the lower half of the league. But maybe this Bears offense is a little better than they are getting credit for, as Kyle Orton continues to play well, as he threw for 283 yards and 2 scores on the Vikings last week. The bright spot for the defense was their run defense, as they gave up just 56 yards to rookie Matt Forte on 20 carries. Look for the Texans to focus mainly on the pass this week, but you have to like this defense at home.
Got something to say?
