College Football Point Spreads: Texas A&M at Texas Tech
Written October 23, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
After beating up on three cupcake opponents which led to a 3-0 start, the Aggies have fell into a shell losing three straight games. They got punished by Arkansas 47-19, lost to a very overrated Oklahoma State team 36-31 and got absolutely embarrassed by Kansas State last weekend 62-14. The guy who is not responsible for this destruction is quarterback Jerrod Johnson. he has thrown for 1,893 yards with 16 touchdowns to only 3 interceptions. This kid is very good and should see some opportunities to hit big plays tonight. Now, running back Chris Gray has rushed for 317 yards and 2 TDs while Christine Michael has 285 himself with 2 scores, all of these numbers came in the first three games. Texas Tech has a good defense and has improved their run defense drastically. Onto the real ugliness. Texas A&M has a defense that will make you squirm. The 33 points per game and 394 total yards allowed is not nearly an indication of how bad they are. In their last three games they have been outscored 143-64 and have allowed an average of 435 yards per game. I am unsure how they will be able to contain this prolific Texas Tech offense but an x-factor for them would be wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu. If he is able to get space from the Red Raiders cornerbacks then A&M might build enough confidence to steal a big win. Head coach Mike Sherman will have his hands full as he’s getting pressured to provide a big marquee win for this program. This game would be a good start. The NCAA football lines show Texas Tech as a 21.5 point favorite over A&M with a total set for 67.5 points.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are currently ranked #24 in the nation. They are 5-2 this season and have been impressive on both ends of the ball. Taylor Potts came in like a gang buster filling the shoes of Graham Harrell with no worries, then the junior QB got hurt, enter junior Steven Sheffield. In three games Sheffield threw for 1,014 yards and 12 touchdowns to only two interceptions. Taylor Potts in four games has thrown for 1,817 yards with 13 touchdowns to six interceptions. Tonight Potts starts as Sheffield is out with a foot injury. Running back Baron Batch has rushed for 350 yards and 5 TDs this year. He is not used much due to the passing game being so dominant but when he’s focused, watch out, Batch can run. The receiving core is stacked with talent. Detron Lewis has 485 receiving yards and 4 TDs while Tramain Swindall is the big hitter, he’s collected 467 yards and 5 TDs. The two of them combined have produced 60 catches to date. The defense allows 19.7 points per game and 340 total yards. The only way they’ll struggle tonight is if the secondary lays an egg. A&M does not have a running back to threaten them, so if head coach Mike Leach can have his troops focused, they should pound this team into submission. If you bet college football be sure to take advantage of a $20 free bet from Sportsbook.com when you sign up for a new account.
Haimo’s Hot Notes:
Texas A&M are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
Texas Tech are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games.
Red Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win.
Home team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
Aggies are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 meetings.
Aggies are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 meetings in Texas Tech.
What a total Mismatch this is. The Red Raiders average 8 more points per game and allow 14 less points against. That is where your 22 point spread is coming from. Careful bookmakers, the Aggies are reeling while Tech is booming. Texas Tech also allows 53 less yards per game against. Potts could throw for 500 yards tonight and I am not close to kidding.
