Texas at Oklahoma State Football Odds

Written October 29, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The #3 ranked Texas Longhorns will travel to Stillwater to take on the #13 Oklahoma State Cowboys this Saturday night. The crowd will be fired up for the game and the Cowboys have really bounced back in recent weeks following their early season upset loss to Houston, so Texas should be very wary of this team and this game. The last two times Texas has traveled to Oklahoma State they have come out victorious after a furious rally to win the game in the second half. What will this weekend’s matchup bring? Most football picks from the experts have this being a very tightly contested game.

The Texas Longhorns played their most complete game yet this season in their 41-7 trouncing of the Missouri Tigers at Missouri last weekend. The offense appears to be getting things going in a big way and the defense continues to absolutely shut teams down. Colt McCoy started the season slowly, but he has picked it up in the last couple of games. McCoy is definitely a terrific leader for the Longhorns in their quest for a national title. The Longhorns have a full stable of running backs capable of doing damage, but Vondrell McGee is their leading rusher and he averages 5.6 yards per carry. Jordan Shipley is a game changing wide receiverĀ and punt returner that seems to come up with the big plays when Texas needs them the most. The Longhorns defense is allowing just 13.6 points per game and an amazing 41.6 yards per game on the ground. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are without star wide receiver Dez Bryant, but they still have a very potent offense. Zac Robinson is a senior leader at quarterback who can beat a team with his arm or his legs. Robinson has improved his decision making greatly and has thrown 11 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions. Keith Toston has stepped up and provided a very nice lift from the tailback position this year. Toston has run for 606 yards and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Between Robinson and Toston the Cowboys have two very dangerous runners in the backfield almost every play. The Cowboy offense is averaging a very impressive 37 points per game this season. The defense has improved from a year ago and is giving up exactly 20 points per game. The rush defense has been very good, while the pass defense has been suspect at times.

This week’s college football odds show Texas a 9 point road favorite in this one. Texas is 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 road games and 7-3 against the spreadĀ in their last 10 meetings with Oklahoma State. The posted total for this game has been set at 52 points. The over is 35-17 in Oklahoma State’s last 52 home games and the over is 16-7-1 in the Longhorns last 24 road games.

Expect Colt McCoy and the Texas offense to be able to move the ball through the air quite effectively in this one, but Oklahoma State won’t go down without a tough fight. With Robinson slinging it for Oklahoma State I think there will be plenty of points put on the board, so the over is probably the best bet in this matchup. Look for Texas to win this one in a close game, but the game should go over the posted total.
