Texas Tech vs Texas Football Betting Lines

Michael Crabtree is no longer a Red Raider, a fact that makes Texas coach Mack Brown that much happier in preparing for this week’s big game. The #2 Longhorns are hosting the unranked Texas Tech Red Raiders in Austin, with game time set for 8:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. The Longhorns have revenge on their mind after a stunning 39-33 loss last year. This is the first conference game of the year for both teams in the Big 12 south. Before you bet on football anymore this season, take a look at this $500 match bonus from BetUS. There’s simply no better deal going right now.
This year Texas Tech is picking up where they left off offensively, with QB Taylor Potts throwing for 9 td’s and 861 yards in the first two games of the season. The main target has been Lyle Leong, who’s captured 13 receptions for 172 yards and 3 td’s. Tech’s offense is a bit one-dimensional, as the top two rushers have only gained a total of 81 yards in two contests.
Senior linebacker Marlon Williams has been the standout defensively, leading the team with 16 tackles, including five for a loss. In the second half against Rice, the defense amassed 3 sacks while limiting the Owls to just 154 yards in the final two quarters. Pressure was a plus, as they racked up a total of six sacks in the game. They’ve put up good numbers against sub par offenses, and will be put to the test against Colt McCoy.
The Texas offense has rolled in its first two games of the season, with Colt McCoy adding to the Heisman watch with his 5 td’s and 654 yards passing. He’s still the dual threat with a rushing touchdown to boot. As usual, the Longhorns have a strong running game that is averaging just under 200 rushing yards per contest. Jordan Shipley has led the receiving core with 15 receptions for 241 yards and one touchdown, and will be looking to have another big game against Tech. The Red Raiders will have their hands full against a very balanced offensive attack.
The defense will have their hands full as they go against an offense that’s putting up 46.5 points a game while leading the nation in yards passing. So far they’ve had success, limiting opponents to 285.5 yards/game. With 50 plus passing attempts a game, look for the defense to capitalize on Potts 3 interceptions already this year. Sergio Kindle plans to make it a long day for Potts as the marquee pass rusher at defensive end for the Long Horns.
This storied rivalry will no doubt add another exciting chapter after this Saturday, as both teams are 2-0 and hungry for a win. This is the 59th all time meeting, with Texas dominating the series 43-15. Home court advantage could mean something as well, as Texas has won 5 straight in Austin. Checking the football odds for this weekend, the Longhorns are the favorite by a whopping 17.5 points, which means Texas Tech could easily cover the spread. The over/under is currently 66 points.
