Texas vs. Nebraska NCAA Football Odds

Written December 4, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

Two of the most storied Big 12 programs will meet in Saturday night’s Big 12 Championship game at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Longhorns of Texas have high national title hopes, while Nebraska comes in at 9-3 after reviving a program that has been down in recent years. The crowd will definitely be tilted toward the Longhorns, but Nebraska fans travel well so there will be some Cornhusker fans as well. The stakes are huge in this one and the lights will be shining bright on this field Saturday night! Get an extra $100 to bet on football when you sign up at Bodog and deposit $100 or more.

The Texas Longhorns fought a spirited battle against their rivals at Kyle Field last weekend and come out victorious. Colt McCoy had a game for the record books and put his name back into Heisman contention with over 300 yards passing and over 150 yards rushing in that game alone. McCoy started the season a little slowly, but he is firing on all cylinders of late. In the last three games McCoy has 10 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. For the season McCoy has completed 72% of his passes for 3,328 yards. Jordan Shipley may be the best wide receiver in the nation and the McCoy to Shipley connection is definitely the best one-two punch. Shipley has an amazing 99 receptions and 11 touchdowns and is also a great punt returner. The backfield is deep for Texas and they have been able to balance out there offense more as the season goes along. The offense is third in the country in points scored per game at 43 points per game. The defense has also been great, ranking 5th in total yards allowed and first in rushing defense at just 61.9 yards per game.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a really rough patch in the middle of the season when they lost back to back games at home to Iowa State and Texas Tech, but other than that they have had a very nice season. The inconsistency has made it difficult on those making football picks, but they have rebounded nicely. No doubt the defense leads the way for Nebraska as they rank 3rd in the country in points allowed and 11th in total yards allowed. The defensive line is a real load and can pressure the quarterback well even without blitzing. On offense Nebraska has been less consistent. Zac Lee has looked good at times, but at other times the passing game goes stagnant. Roy Helu is a very talented running back who is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and has 10 touchdowns on the season.

The college football odds for this weekend show Texas a healthy 14.5 point favorite over Nebraska in this conference title game. The posted total is set at 47 points. When making your college football picks for this game remember that the under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings. Texas is 7-2-1 against the spread in their last 10 games at a neutral site.

Both defenses are very good, but I have to think that this Texas offense will be able to put up some points on Nebraska. If Nebraska wants to stay in this game I think they’ll have to get their offense going some and try to keep Colt McCoy and the rest of the crew off the field as much as possible. The strength of the Texas defense is stopping the run, so it will be interesting to see how Nebraska tries to attack the Texas defense. Texas has the deeper and more talented team and I expect them to win and play in the BCS Championship game.

My college football plays are on fire! I am now 20-6 in my 26 picks this season. This weekend I have two premium packages available, a sides and totals package of three picks each. These packages are both guaranteed!
