Texas A&M vs. Texas Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Thursday the No.4 ranked Texas Longhorns get their shot to show the country that they are deserving of the shot to play for the National Championship, when they host the Texas A&M Aggies. The Longhorns got new life last week when they continued their winning ways with a 35-7 win on the road vs. Kansas, while Oklahoma beat up on Texas Tech to create a three way tie for first place in the South division of the Big 12. Now there are a number of different scenarios that can play out but the key for the Longhorns is win, and win big. The Aggies shouldn’t be a problem for that, as they come in at 4-7, and got destroyed last week on the road at Baylor 41-21. For those of you looking to do some college football betting this week, the oddsmakers have the Longhorns 34.5 point favorites over the Aggies at BetUS.com
The Aggies have not been impressive at all this season, as all their wins have came against teams that just aren’t very good. Last week against Baylor they showed little to no life till this one was already over. By the time the Aggies got things rolling with two 4th quarter touchdowns, it was already to late, as Baylor had built a 41-7 lead after just 3 quarters of play. Texas A&M’s only offense came through the air, as Jarrod Johnson threw for 244 yards and 2 scores, but Johnson had 4 interceptions that killed this teams chances of winning this game. The run game was pretty much non-existent as the Aggies ran it 21 times for just 64 yards. This week the Aggies have no shot at winning this football game, but if they want to spoil Texas’s shot at a National Championship, they are going to have to put some points on the scoreboard.
Now the Aggies defense will have its hands full against Colt McCoy and the Longhorns offense, as the fewest points the Longhorns have scored all season, is 28 points back against a good Oklahoma State team. For a defense that let Baylor rack up over 500 yards of total offense, with nearly 270 on the ground and 240 through the air, it doesn’t look good for this unit. Now what makes this game even worse for the Aggies defense, is Texas has to score has to score as much as it can in this one, as they have to convince voters that they are than Oklahoma, even though they beat the Sooners this season. Now 35 points is a lot, but just remember Texas wants to win by 60 or more if it can this week. Bet Texas A&M +34.5 at BetUS.com
The Longhorns have a lot to prove this week, but all they can really do is go out there and just play as hard as they can, and hope for the best. Now even with a win they might not get into the BCS Championship, but it could put them one step closer to playing in a BCS bowl game this season. Last week against the Jayhawks the Longhorns offense started off steady with touchdowns in both the first and second quarters, than exploded for 21 pints in the 3rd quarter to secure their lead and win. Colt McCoy had another solid day throwing the football, as he racked up 255 yards through the air with 2 scores, and also led the Longhorns in rushing with 78 yards on 16 carries. Look for McCoy to air it big time this week, as he could easily throw and run for at least 5 touchdowns in this one.
The Longhorns defense was solid against the Jayhawks, as they didn’t let Kansas score till the 3rd quarter, as the touchdown pass from Todd Reesing to Dexton Fields was the only score the Longhorns gave up the whole game. Texas was dominant against the run, allowing the Jayhawks just 47 yards on the ground, and never had to worry about Kansas doing much of anything in this one. The Longhorns forced two fumbles in this one, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this unit rack up close to 4 turnovers this week against the Aggies. Bet Texas -34.5 at BetUS.com
