Tiger Woods US Open
June 4, 2008
It’s time for another major golf tournament, as the US Open is fast approaching and its time to take a look at Tiger Woods odds to win the US Open brought to you by professional handicapper Jason Lowry. Woods come into this event off a near two-month layoff from knee surgery that forced him to miss all action after finishing 2nd at the Masters. Tiger started off the season with 3 straight wins on the PGA Tour before a 5th place finish at the WGC-CA Championship. The most important win might be the Buick Invitational, which was held at the Torrey Pines, the same course the US Open is set to be played on this year. Not only did Woods win the tournament this year, it was the 4th straight and sixth out of the last ten. Here is a look at why Tiger Woods will win the 2008 US Open and why he won’t cash in for his 14th major victory.

Why he will win:
Not only is this the best golfer in the world we are talking about, you have to look at this guys game before he went out with a knee injury. There was talk that this guy wouldn’t lose this year, and even when he does he is usually right in the thick of things. Tiger has simply owned Torrey Pines over the last decade, and it’s hard to see anything different happening. Know comes more prepared for major tournaments then this guy, as he currently sits in 2nd with 13 behind Jack Nicklaus’s 18. Tiger finished 2nd at the US Open in 2007 and 2005. If Tiger can find the fairway then look out as he is #1 in greens in regulation and 5th in putting average. Tiger says that he will be ready to go this weekend; there is no reason to argue with the guy who has dominated his sport like he has. You have to remember that if this guy gets the lead early its over, as he is the best finisher in the game.
Why he won’t win:
This took a little more thinking as you might have guessed, but coming off an injury is enough to send a lot of betters in the other direction. He hasn’t played competitively since the Masters, and if you look back to 2006 when he took a break after his father died, he wound up missing the cut at the US Open. While it’s hard to compare an injury with a loss like that, it’s something to think about. While its hard to make this argument when Woods is playing at Torrey Pines, but Woods has struggled with the driver this year, as he is currently ranked 194th in total driving. Just like he is the best front runner in the game, Tiger has never been able to come back and win a major after heading into Sunday behind the leader. Another thing that is going against Tiger is that the US Open has easily been his toughest major, as he only has 2 wins here and 3 top 10 finishes. That isn’t much to get upset about, but when you have standards like Tiger anything but a win is unacceptable for this man.
It’s up to you on this one, but if you want our opinion we got Tiger winning by at least 3 in this one.
