Tigers Woods Odds To Win 2008 Masters

golf

With the Masters coming up in less than two weeks we figured we would start taking a look some of golf’s best and their chances of taking home the green jacket and the first major of the season. We are going to start off with the best golfer in the world, and maybe the best golfer to every play the game. Tiger Woods comes in as the odds on favorite to win in almost every tournament he enters, and this will be no different. We are going to break down his shot at winning by giving you our reasons on why he will win and why he will lose.

Why He Will Win:

Lets face it this guy is simply a few steps, if not more, above every other golfer on tour. Not only doe he have the best game, he has the mental toughness that is needed to withstand all the pressure that comes in playing in these major tournaments. Tiger started where he left off last season by winning the first three tournaments he entered, with the most dramatic coming at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he nailed a 24ft putt to win on the 18th hole. Though he looked unstoppable to begin the season, he was finally dethroned at the CA Championship, where he finished in 5th place. The reason for Tigers success has been his ability to hit greens in regulation and his ability to sink a putt from almost anywhere on the green. He is currently ranked first in greens in regulation, and 3rd in putting average. He also has the best scoring average on tour, so there is no reason to think he won’t be at the top after the final hole is played. Besides Tiger simply being Tiger, we really like him at the Masters because of his track record at Augusta National. He has won the event four times, with the most recent coming in 2005. So look for Tiger to once again wear the green jacket, and start off on the right track for taking home the Grand Slam this year.

Why He Won’t Win:

There are really only a few things that could stop Tiger from winning the Masters. One being he struggles making putts, as he did at the CA Championship. Another way might be someone just simply comes in and shoots lights out for 4 days straight and is able to withstand the pressure of Tiger close behind. It should be noted that Tiger has really struggled coming from behind in the final round of majors, so if he isn’t leading after Saturday, it might be time to worry. Lastly he might struggle if some sort of injury or freak event happens, but this is highly unlikely to take place. Just remember Tiger is human and can have a bad weekend, so while he is the odds on favorite to win, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have to show up and get the job done.
