Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs NFL Betting Odds

Written October 17, 2008 by Brad Marchetti

About the only hope the Kansas City Chiefs are banking on to beat the Tennessee Titans is getting back QB Brodie Croyle after the bye week. The Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs match-up will feature a downtrodden K.C team at home against arguably the best team in the NFL, the Titans. The Titans have played disciplined, smart, smash mouth football that has them at a strong 5-0. The Tennessee defense is a thing to be feared with 320Lb. DT Albert Haynesworth leading the charge. The NFL betting odds for the Kansas City Chiefs vs Tennessee Titans match-up is Tennessee -9 points.

Rookie Titans RB Chris Johnson (4.5 YPR 450 Total Yds. 3 TD) has been a threat all-season to defenders with his 4.20 40-yard dash speed. Johnson along with bulldozing #2 RB Lendale White (2.6 YPC 5 TD) will look to run over a K.C rush defense allowing 182.2 yards a per game. The Chiefs secondary isn’t much safer against a bull strong Titans O-line that will keep K.C’s very weak pass-rush off QB Kerry Collins. The rifle-armed (55 MPH pass-speed = 95 MPH fastball) Kerry Collins has played smart football since taking over for franchise QB Vince Young. TE Bo Scaife (6′3′ 250 Lb.) has become a recent favorite target of Collins with his 20 receptions. WR’s Justin Gage, Brandon Jones and Justin McCareins have all been steady players. The 6′4″ 212 Lb. Justin Gage (4.60 40-speed) is listed as questionable with a knee injury. The Chifes safeties are weak and slow. The Titans offensive weapons could have their way if K.C can’t stop the run. This season the Chiefs have a respectable 88.3 passer rating defense with rookie CB’s Brandon Flowers (350+ bench-press) and Brandon Carr (6′0″ 207 Lbs.) playing well. The Chiefs will need to try and hit the immobile Kerry Collins as much as possible and try to force turnovers. The Titans are a well-coached team that is very good at ball security. K.C outside linebacker Derrick Johnson (2 INT 1.5 Sacks) is the best player on defense and will need to have a big game to help the struggling offense. The Titans running attack has looked off in the past few games, is this a sign of things to come?

Brodie Croyle is playing as the Chiefs starting QB as contract extension audition. Croyle (69.6 Passer Rating) is manning a sinking Chiefs ship that is unlikely to see the postseason. All-Pro RB Larry Johnson is out due to suspension leaving running duties to RB Jamaal Charles (4.7 YPC 166 Total YDS. 0 TD). Rookie Jamaal Charles (4.35 40-speed) will be relied upon to attack a Titans defense that is allowing 3.7 yards per carry. QB Brodie Croyle will try to gain the Titans respect by trying to hit his two big targets in TE Tony Gonzales (21 Rec. 193 Yds. 2 TD) and WR Dwayne Bowe (27 Rec. 324 Yds. 2 TD). Tennessee could have Croyle running for his life in this game with a defense that has 15.0 sacks against a banged up Chiefs line that has allowed 15.0 sacks. The Chiefs will try to keep the game close by pounding Johnson and running play-action. The Titans secondary has been excellent with a 52.2 opponents passer rating. The NFL betting odds OVERUNDER for the Kansas City Chiefs vs Tennessee Titans match-up is at 35 points.

Brodie Croyle is back for K.C but that won’t mean much with franchise RB Larry Johnson out. The Titans brutal front four could dominate this game for the entire time they face the Chiefs soft O-line. The trap game factor could be in effect for the undefeated Titans in this game with their next match-up vs the Indianapolis Colts. The NFL betting odds MONEYLINE for the Kansas City Chiefs vs Tennessee Titans match-up is Tennessee -360.
