Titans Panthers Line

The Carolina Panthers will host the Tennessee Titans in week 10 of NFL action. The Panthers return from their bye week hoping to have a little better luck in the second half of the season. Carolina dropped to 2-6  on the year after losing 21-24 at home to Minnesota. The Titans will try and get their season back on track after losing three of their last four, including a 17-24 loss at home to Cincinnati last week.

Taking a look at the week 10 lines, oddsmakers currently have Carolina favored by 3.5-points over Tennessee with the total set at 46.5 points.

Tennessee Titans:

The Titans looked like they were going to be one of the surprise teams in 2011 after opening the season 3-1 with an impressive 26-13 win over Baltimore, but have not played well at all over their last four games. The Titans only win since beating the Browns 31-13 in week 4 is a 27-10 win over the winless Colts.

In the last game against Cincinnati, veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns, but thanks to another poor rushing performance the Titans were able to manage just two touchdowns. Hasselbeck hasthrown for 2,014 yards in the first eight games, which is the second highest total he has put up in his career.

The problem is the Titans aren’t getting anything from running back Chris Johnson on the ground. The former Pro Bowl back had just 64 yards on 14 attempts, and finished the first half of the season with just 0ne 100-yard performance. Until this team figures out a way to get something going on the ground, they are going to continue to struggle to win games.

Johnson and company will have a great opportunity to breakout with big game against a Carolina defense that ranks 28th in the NFL allowing 133.3 ypg.

Carolina Panthers:

While rookie quarterback Cam Newton has brought life back to this organization, the Panthers have continued to struggle to win games. The biggest problem has been finishing games. The Panthers have had a second half lead in five of their six losses. If this team could have won just three of those five games, they would be right in the thick of things in the NFC South.

In their last game against Minnesota, Carolina took a 21-14 lead with 11 minutes to go in the third quarter. However, they would 3 and out on their next three possessions and miss a field goal in the final seconds to send the game into overtime.

Despite not being able to get the offense going late, Newton finished with a pretty impressive stat line. The rookie not only threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns, but also led the team with 53 yards on the ground. Steve Smith had another big day with seven catches for 100 yards and a score, while tight ends Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey each caught a touchdown pass.

The Panthers figure to have a good opportunity to get the offense going as they return from their bye week. Tennessee has given up 34 points a game in their last three losses, and are just 1-2 on the road this season.

Betting Trends:

Tennessee is 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games as an underdog of 3.5-10.0.

Carolina is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
