Toledo at Central Michigan Line

This Friday the Toledo Rockets will go on the road to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in what could turn out to be a key MAC matchup. The Rockets come in off a thrilling 66-63 win over Western Michigan last Tuesday to improve to 5-1 in conference play. Toledo is tied with Northern Illinois for first place in the West division, but need the Huskies to lose one of their final two games to have any chance of playing in the MAC Championship Game. The Chippewas loss 28-43 at Ohio last Thursday to fall to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference. This will be the final game of the season for Central Michigan, and you have to believe they are going to give their best effort to finish the season with a big win over one of the top teams in the MAC.
Taking a look at the week 12 college football spreads, oddsmakers currently have Toledo favored by 14-points over Central Michigan with the total set at 72 points.
Toledo:
The Rockets 60-63 loss at Northern Illinois is looming large with just a couple weeks left in the regular season. There is a good chance Toledo will win their final two games and finish 7-1 in conference play, but unless the Huskies lose at home to either Ball State or Eastern Michigan they will be left out of the MAC Championship Game. The only thing the Rockets can do is take care of their own business and hope to get some help.
While the defense has made things interesting the last couple of games, the Toledo offense has done their part with back-to-back 60-point performances. They racked up 589 yards on their way to 60 points against a suspect Northern Illinois defense a couple weeks ago, and then backed that up with 66 points and 804 yards of offense against Western Michigan.
Most teams stick to one quarterback when they play well, but the Rockets continue to use both Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens. Dantin played primarily against Northern Illinois, throwing for 322 yards and five touchdowns, but it was Owens who stole the spotlight with 318 yards and three touchdowns against Western Michigan. It appears that head coach Tim Beckman is going to play whichever quarterback looks the best on that given night. Whoever ends up taking the snaps against Central Michigan will have a great chance to put up some big numbers, as the Chippewas come in giving up 237.6 passing yards a game.
The Rockets might not need either starter to play well to come away with a win against Central Michigan. Senior running back Adonis Thomas rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns against Western Michigan, and has totaled 376 yards on the ground in his last two games. Central Michigan doesn’t figure to have much of a chance of slowing down Thomas and the Rockets rushing attack. The Chippewas allowed 309 rushing yards in their last game against Ohio and are allowing 183.6 ypg on the season.
Central Michigan:
While the Chippewas season is all but over with no hopes of playing in a bowl game, you have to believe head coach Dan Enos is going to do everything in his power to get his team ready to pull off a huge upset at home in the final game of the year. Central Michigan handed Northern Illinois their only conference loss at home earlier this season.
While Central Michigan is averaging just 23.1 ppg on the year, their offense has a great opportunity to finish with a bang against a Toledo defense that has been downright awful the last couple weeks. The Chippewas offense biggest strength has been throwing the ball, as they come in averaging 277.9 passing yards a game behind junior quarterback Ryan Radcliff. The Toledo defense has been torched for 813 yards and 13 touchdowns through the air in their last two games, and have shown nothing that makes me believe they are going to be able to keep Radcliff from putting up huge numbers.
Radcliff has thrown for over 300 yards in four of his last five games, including 362 yards and three touchdowns in their last game against Ohio. The big concern will be can Radcliff to enough to keep this game close. Toledo has an offense that scores just about every time they touch the ball, which means Radcliff is going to have be extremely efficient inside the redzone and not turn the ball over.
Betting Trends:
Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road favorite of 10.5 or greater.
Central Michigan is 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
Got something to say?
