Turner and Ryan May Be Back This Week
Written December 17, 2009 by Jack Jones
D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently tweeted that both running back Michael Turner and quarterback Matt Ryan returned to practice on Thursday. While they were most likely limited in their participation, the news that they may be back this week for the Falcons game against the New York Jets has to bring a smile to the face of their fans. This team needs a win in a big way this Sunday if they have any hope of making the playoffs.
When I’m looking at the NFL point spreads this weekend, the return of Ryan is more important to me than getting Turner back in the backfield. The Jets are tough against the run, so if Atlanta wants to move the ball they are going to have to depend heavily on their passing game. Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood have been at least serviceable in Turner’s absence, but in his last three games before the injury Turner ran for 151, 166, and 111 yards.
Chris Redman on the other hand leaves me a little nervous. He was just 23-for-44 against Philadelphia, but bounced back to play well last week against the New Orleans Saints with a 67.6% completion rate for 303 yards.
I’ll probably stay away from this game with my NFL football picks this weekend as I hate this many question marks.
