MLB Predictions: Minnesota Twins at Baltimore Orioles
Written May 6, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Twins are 13-14 on the season. As they stand one game under .500, the return of Joe Mauer should change that sooner rather then later. Justin Morneau leads his team with six home runs and 21 RBIs while hitting .318 from the plate. He continues to be one of the more under-appreciated stars in the league. Jason Kubel is off to a career-best start with four homers and 16 RBIs with a .315 BA. Denard Span has solidified himself as the every day lead-off man for this team as hes hitting .314 from the plate one home run, 14 RBIs and seven stolen bases. The Twins also have a plethora of role players that are productive such as Alexi Casilla, Michael Cuddyer and Delmon Young. As stated above, the return of Joe Mauer is going to make this a completely different team. Tonight Minnesota sends Kevin Slowey to the mound. He has one of the more interesting stat lines for a pitcher to start the season. Through his first five starts, Slowey has a 5.17 ERA while allowing 44 hits in 31.1 innings pitched. With that said, he is 4-0. Amazing, I know. He gets as much run support as any starter in baseball. Look for that run support to continue, just expect him to pitch much better then he has. Denard Span will be key tonight as he has a .465 OBP against lefties. Look for him to set the tone. The MLB lines for Wednesday are now set and show the Twins -113 against the Orioles with the total set at 10.5 runs.
Baltimore has a 10-17 record overall. Now, most teams that have records of seven games under .500 with 27 games into the year you’d think would be very poor. This team is not one of those. Between Nick Markakis, Brian Roberts and Adam Jones you have a three players combination which is legit to say the least. Aubrey Huff is an above average player while Melvin Mora is a previous all-star. Jones has 29 runs scored this year while Markakis also has 29 and Brian Roberts has 23. Markakis and Huff both have 20+ RBIs as well. So this team does not lack hitting in any way and also has speed to boot. Pitching though, not so much. They have a team ERA of 5.60. Tonight’s starter is Mark Hendrickson. Through five starts the 6′9 lefty is 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA. He has walked 12 batters in 23.1 innings pitched. The Orioles will need to make this a high scoring game with tons of base runners to win tonight. The better pitcher is the Twins’ Kevin Slowey. Its safe to say Nick Markakis is the franchise and best player on this O’s team. Adam Jones is a future star. When you talk about the most important player to the team, you mention Brian Roberts. The second baseman provides power and average with speed on the base paths. He must get on base tonight and make this a prolonged game because you can bank on the fact that Hendrickson will not out-pitch Slowey.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Twins are 8-1 in their last nine meetings in Baltimore. In the last 24 games overall between these two teams, the Twins are 18-6. The Orioles are 9-26 in their last 35 Wednesday games. The Orioles are 16-45 in their last 61 games overall dating back to last season. This is one of those games you load the boat on and don’t look back. No regrets here. It is very important in sports betting to know when you pin point a game that in your mind is perfect, you don’t get cold feet and shy off. This is one of them. BEST BET, count on it.
Betting Line: Minnesota Twins -113/Baltimore Orioles +103
Jordan’s Pick: Minnesota Twins -113 (BEST BET)
Wow, that’s a bad beat and at a bad time. The White Sox were up 5-1 and 7-3 in two different spots last night as we were sitting pretty to cash in. Then the bullpen arrives and costs us big time. Unfortunately, things like this happen, especially in baseball considering the length of the season. We have a nice card of games tonight as we look to hit big. Our profit margins still sit sky high as these bad breaks are nothing more than that.

Got something to say?

I like the twinkies too, after getting emabarrassed by the tigers 9-0, I expect them to rebound in a big way and the Os are the perfect fade. How many have they lost in a row?

This is one of my favorite picks of the season. Orioles are 1-7 in their last eight to answer your question. Shame with the Chi Sox last night. That should have been a W.
