UAB at Ole Miss Football Betting Lines

Ole’ Miss takes on UAB this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. EDT. At 3-2 and with their conference title hopes all but shattered, the Rebels are looking to regain their confidence against the 2-3 Blazers. The Rebels are the heavy favorite with 22 points according to the latest college football odds.
Ole Miss is led by QB Jevan Snead, who has been having a mediocre year with 9 picks to go along with 9 touchdowns. The Rebels are coming off a disheartening loss against now #2 Alabama where they only managed to put up 3 points and Snead threw 4 interceptions. While there were a few dropped passes, Snead finished the day 11 of 34 and will need to bounce back this week to regain some confidence. Despite the setback, Mississippi is still scoring 35 ppg and RB’s Bolden and MCCluster are gaining an avg. of 5.3 and 4.4 ypc, respectively. They won’t need to play their A game to get the win against this Conference USA opponent.
Defensively the Rebels did their part last week against the Crimson Tide. They held them to 5 field goals and only one late touchdown for a total of 22 points. They also lead the SEC in sacks/game and are 9th in the nation in scoring defense, despite playing stiff competition in Alabama and South Carolina. Ole’ Miss is especially stout against the pass at 4th in the nation in pass defense efficiency, and are sure to cause some problems for UAB in their throwing game. The Blazers are hoping to continue their momentum after beating Southern Miss last weekend. QB Joe Webb broke a 3 game losing steak with a great game, rushing for 138 yards and a score and passing for another one. While Webb isn’t much of a threat through the air, 128.8 ypg with 6 TD’s and 5 picks, he must be respected on the run with his 114 ypg, 6.2 ypc and leads the team with 5 rushing td. Their strength is the ground game, as they rank 9th nationally averaging 228.8 ypg.
UAB is a little suspect on the defensive side of the ball. They’ve allowed almost 32 ppg and have given up just shy of 455 ypg in 5 contests this year. While the defense is opportunistic as evidenced by their 12 takeaways, opponents have exposed a weakness in the air attack, throwing for an average of 308.6 ypg. The stop unit has recorded 29 tackles for a loss, and will need to build on those stats to keep it close against an Rebel offense that’s only had trouble against SEC foes.
The Blazers are looking to change the 0-3 record they have against SEC opponents under 3rd year coach Neil Callawy. Ole’ Miss is looking to return to the rankings after dropping out last week. UAB has been strong rushing the ball, but they haven’t been tested against a defense as good as Mississippi. Despite their inconsistency, look for the Rebels to make a statement by putting up points against a team that allowed 56 to Texas A&M. This game could easily get over the total set at 51.5.
