UCLA at Washington

This Thursday the UCLA Bruins will go on the road to take on the Washington Huskies in Pac-10 action. The Bruins come in off a 17-14 win over Oregon State, while the Huskies look to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Oregon 53-16. Both teams were off this past weekend, so they should be well rested and prepared for what the other team runs on both sides of the ball. The Huskies have lost 11 of the last 13 against the Bruins, including a 24-23 loss last season, but looking at the most recent odds, the oddsmakers have the Huskies favored by 2 points over the Bruins at home.

UCLA (4-5, 2-4 Pac-10): The Bruins snapped a three game losing streak with their win over the Beavers, but needed a last second field goal by Kai Forbath from 51 yards out to win the game and avoid overtime. While the Bruins won the game, the offensive woes continued. UCLA scored 107 points during a three game winning streak earlier this season, but have managed just 58 points in their last four games.

The Bruins finally got the running game back on track, as they rushed for 210 yards on 55 attempts. UCLA had ran for just 228 yards in their previous three games. Jonathan Franklin led the way with 100 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, while quarterback Richard Brehaut added 61 yards and a score on 18 carries. The Bruins should be able to run the ball this week, as the Huskies come in ranked 111th in the country, allowing nearly 220 yards a game on the ground.

Washington (3-6, 2-4 Pac-10): The Huskies also come into the game this weekend struggling to score points, as they have managed just 30 points in their last three games. The defense hasn’t helped matters, allowing 140 points over the last three games.

Quarterback Jake Locker missed the Huskies last game against Oregon, but is expected to play this week against the Bruins. Locker hasn’t been as impressive as some might have expected coming into the season, but when he is on the Huskies have been very tough to beat. The Bruins have allowed the opposing quarterback to throw for at least 260 yards in four of their last six games. The Bruins have also struggled against the run, allowing 192 yards a game on the ground, so running back Chris Polk could also be in for a big day on the offensive side of the ball.

Looking at the Odds: It is expected to rain throughout the game this Thursday, which really hurts the Huskies passing attack, and ultimately hurts their chances of winning this game. With the way UCLA has ran the ball at times this season, and the way the Huskies have struggled stopping the run, I think there is no doubt that you take the points and bet the Bruins in this one. UCLA is 11-6 against the spread versus Washington since 1992, and are 26-8 ATSĀ  after having lost 3 out of their last 4 games since 1992. My final score prediction is UCLA 31, Washington 27.
