UFC 84 Picks, Odds, & Predictions
Written May 19, 2008 by Jack Jones
Saturday May 24th the UFC is back in action with UFC 84 Ill Will that has a trio of great fights that make this a must see for MMA fighting fans. The event is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last three fights of the night are going to have you glued to your seat as you not only get Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine and Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida, you get an excellent main event in BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk that puts the UFC Lightweight Championship belt up for grabs in one the more heated battles you will see. With only a week till the action starts we thought it would be a good idea to preview each fight and give you who we think is going to win along with each fighters odds thanks to Bodoglife.com
Main Event: BJ “The Prodigy” Penn vs. Sean “Muscle Shark” Sherk
To say that these two fighters don’t like each other would be an understatement. With the trash talking going on leading up to the fight there is no doubt that these two guys are going to do whatever it takes to knock the crap out of the other guy. Penn comes in as the UFC Lightweight Champion and holds the belt that Sherk feels was wrongly taken from him after he tested positive for steroids in December of 2007. This should be a classic for as long as it goes Penn is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the game, and Sherk has a motor that can go 100% for the full 5 rounds.
Winner: BJ Penn -250 at Bodoglife.com
Tito “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida
This fight has one of the bigger names in Tito Ortiz trying to resurrect his career with a big win over an undefeated Machida who has taken the UFC by storm. Ortiz really needs this fight if he wants to return to the stardom he once had earlier in his career, while Machida is only 4 fights in and is still looking for his first title shot. With a win here we don’t think it will be too long before he gets that shot, but a loss will force this guy to really prove himself against another solid 205-pound fighter before getting back into the talk of things.
Winner: Machida -200 at Bodoglife.com
Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva vs. Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine
This might be the shortest of these 3 fights, but we promise if it is that you get to see some big time punches thrown. Both fighters love to fight and love nothing more than knocking the other guy out. Silva who is mainly a Pride fighter has struggled in his 4 matches in the UFC, winning only one back in 1999 over Tony Peterra. He did recently fight in the UFC in December of last year, but lost by unanimous decision to Chuck Liddell. On the other hand you have Jardine who beat Liddell in his last fight back in September of 2007, and has also beat the likes of Forest Griffin making him one of the top contenders for a title shot in the light heavyweight division.
Winner: Keith Jardine +130 at Bodoglife.com
The other two fights that can be seen on the main card are
Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes
Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic
So if you haven’t ordered UFC 84 on pay-per-view we suggest you do so today, or make plans to go somewhere that is showing it. It always makes things a little more exciting when you got some action on the fights and Bodoglife.com is a great place to place some bets on the fights this weekend.
