UFC 96: Jackson Vs. Jardine Predictions

Written March 6, 2009 by Jason Lowry

ufc96

With UFC 96 just a day away I thought now would be a great time to give you my predictions on the upcoming fights, that is headlined by former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on the “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine. Other action has a solid heavyweight  bout between Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga and the undefeated Shane Carwin. While the card is loaded from top to bottom I am going to focus on the main fight between Jackson and Jardine, but I will give you my predictions on the other fights taking place as well.

Main Event

Bet Quinton “Rampage” Jackson -350 at Sportsbook.com

Like him or hate him, this is one of the best fighters the UFC has to offer, as he has beat some big names in his short time in the UFC, and is already a former champion at his weight class. Jackson lost his belt to Forrest Griffin back at UFC 86 by a unanimous decision, but made up for it in his last fight with a devastating knock out of Wanderlei Silva. Jackson has knock out power from both hands and has some amazing power where he can pick you up and slam you to the ground. While everyone remembers the punches this guy throws, Jackson does have some solid wrestling skills, but we aren’t sure if this fight will see much action on the ground. A win here for Jackson and he will likely get that much wanted shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Title.

Bet Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine +250 at Sportsbook.com

Jardine has just 20 official MMA fights under his belt, but this is a well-rounded fighter that can bring it to for as long as the fight goes. Jardine got knocked out at UFC 84 by Wanderlei Silva, but got right back on track with a win over Brandon Vera at UFC 89. Jardine seems to be up and down, as he also has wins over Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griggin, but between those fights he got knocked out by Houston Alexander.  One thing that Jardine will have to use in his favor is his leg kicks, as he throws more leg kicks than any other fighter in the UFC, and it just so happens that Jackson is one of the worst at defending the leg kicks, and it was a big reason Jackson loss to Griffin for the title. Jardine is one hell of a fighter, and a win here would do wonders for his career, as it would keep him in the talks of the best light heavyweight fighters the UFC has to offer.

Prediciton: Quinton Jackson

Jackson is a beast and showed how much he has improved and matured over the years with his big win over Silva. Jardine has heart, but that won’t be enough, as I see Jackson ending this thing early with a first round knockout

Other Fights:

Gonzaga -170 vs. Carwin +140

Mark Munoz +140 vs. Matt Hamill -170

Gary Maynard -170 vs. Jim Miller +140

Pete Snell -140 vs. Matt Brown +110

Jason Day +160 vs. Kendall Grove -200

Brandon Vera -600 vs. Michael Patt +450
