Utah at Wyoming

This Saturday the 10-ranked Utah Utes will look to remain unbeaten when they go on the road to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. The Utes improved to 5-0 with an impressive 68-27 win at Iowa State last week, while the Cowboys struggles continued, as they fell to No.5 TCU 45-0. The Utes have dominated the Cowboys over the last decade, winning 9 out of the last 10 games, and have outscored them 112-17 the past three games. If you are thinking about betting on the game this weekend, the current odds have the Utes favored by 20.5 points over the Cowboys on the road.
Utah (5-0, 2-0 MWC): The 68 points the Utes scored last week against the Cyclones was their highest offensive output since 1983, when they just so happened to beat Wyoming 69-14. Utah comes into the game this weekend averaging 49 points a game, but up to this point they really haven’t played anyone, as San Diego State is the only team that even has a winning record.
Quarterback Jordan Wynn completed 23 of 31 attempts for a season-high 325 yards last week. Wynn also threw two touchdown passes in the win, giving up him seven touchdowns to just two interceptions on the season. Running backs Eddie Wide and Terrance Cain have both ran the ball well for the Utes, as they have combined for 526 yards and eight scores. Defensively the Utes have also been very good this season, as they are giving up just 15.6 points per game, and are pretty good against both the run and the pass, as they rank in the top 20 in both categories. As long as Utah comes into the game focused and ready to go, they should have no problem taking down the Cowboys.
Wyoming (2-4, 0-2 MWC): The Cowboys are simply not a very good football team at this point in the season, as they are just as bad on offense as they are on the defensive side of the football. The Cowboys rank 117 out of 120 FBS teams in total offense, as they average just over 240 total yards a game. On defense they give up 471 yards a contest, fifth worst in the country.
Last week the Cowboys were without starting quarterback Austin Carta-Samuels against the Horned Frogs, but Carta-Samuels is expected to be ready to go for the game this Saturday. With the way the defense has been playing, Carta Samuels could have the game of his life on offense, and Utah would still win this game by double digits.
Looking at the Odds: While laying 20.5 points can be a little tough to do, I think it is the right play in this game, as the Cowboys have faced three top rated teams already this season, and have lost by a combined score of 130-13. The fact that Utah has to just win by three touchdowns to cover, makes this one of my favorite plays all weekend, as my final score prediction is Utah 38, Wyoming 13.
Got something to say?
