Kevin Stallings developed a very young team and turned it into an up-and-coming program for the future. The team started 11-2 and had two five-game win streaks with a group that started all underclassmen. The team had three overtime losses but had wins over North Carolina and Kentucky during the season before losing to Richmond in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

2011-12 Preview

Each of the top seven scorers and eight of the top nine, return to the Commodores this year, which has helped them get top-10 preseason buzz. The group is athletic and deep in experience, and with Stallings’ emphasis on defense, the Commodores should be right at the top of the SEC standings and a fixture among the nation’s top-25 all season. The main group contains five seniors.

Backcourt

Junior John Jenkins is the top returning scorer, as he tallied 19.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while making 41 percent of his 3-point shots.

Senior Brad Tinsley was fourth in scoring (10.6 ppg) and led the team in assists (155)while recording 3.7 rebounds per game and shooting 37 percent from the arc.

Sophomore Kyle Fuller averaged 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in 15 minutes per game, finishing third on the team in assists (55).

Frontcourt

Senior Jeffery Taylor was second on the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and assists (90), led in steals (35) and was third in rebounding (5.5 pg).

Senior Festus Ezeli led the team in blocks (87), was second on the team in rebounding (6.3 pg) and third in scoring (13 ppg) while shooting 59 percent from the floor.

Senior Lance Goulbourne was the team’s top rebounder, aveaging 7.3 boards per game while scoring 6.9 points per contest.

Senior Steve Tchiengang averaged 4.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while leading the team in 3-point accuracy (41.5 percent).

Sophomore Rod Odom averaged 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 37 percent from 3-point range.
