The No. 23 Vanderbilt Commodores travel to face the SEC-East leading Florida Gators Tuesday in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN at 9:00 EST. Both squads are looking to bounce back from losses. The Commodores lost their first home game of the season in an 89-78 setback to Arkansas on Saturday, while the Gators were knocked out of the Top 25 with their setback at Mississippi State 64-71. The lines give the home team a slight edge, with odds of Florida -3.5 over Vanderbilt and a total set of 139 points.

Vanderbilt (15-5, 3-3) like Florida will be looking to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time all season. Something has to give. Defense has been a big problem of late after allowing opponents to shoot just 39.6 percent through their first five SEC games. The Razorbacks shot 57.4 percent Saturday, becoming only the second team to top the 50.0 percent mark against the Commodores this season. Their 89 points were the most allowed by Vanderbilt this year, and Arkansas also outrebounded them 30-22.

Florida (16-6, 5-2) beat Arkansas in their last home game by in a lopsided 75-43 victory. The Gators shot 50.0 percent from the floor while connecting on 30-of-60 field goal attempts in their win on January 22 over the Razorbacks. Their defense continues to be solid, but Florida’s problem against the Bulldogs on Saturday was certainly on the other end. The Gators only shot 39.7 percent and really cost themselves the game by hitting just 9-of-19 free throws. For the season, they rank second-to-last in the SEC with a 65.3 percent mark from the charity stripe.

Erving Walker is the Florida’s leading scorer at 14.4 points per game, and he single-handedly kept his team in the game Saturday, finishing with 18 points. Walker has averaged 15.3 points per game in four previous meetings with the Commodores. John Jenkins leads Vanderbilt in scoring (19.1) and has averaged a league-best 21.8 points in SEC games. Jenkins scored 24 against Arkansas, and he put up 18 in their 64-60 win at Florida last season on March 2. The Commodores were able to limit the Gators to 36.5 percent shooting, including only 2-of-13 from the 3-point line. That road victory last season put an end to the team’s eight-game losing streak in Gainesville.

Projected Score at Sports Interaction: Florida 71 – Vanderbilt 68
