Editors Note: Jason Lowry has his NCAA LOWRY LOCK OF THE WEEK going in the Virginia Tech Miami game this Thursday, so get this great play and add some cash to your bankroll for the weekend.

The ACC has another big game on Thursday night for all you college football fans, as the Virginia Tech Hokies travel down south to take on the Miami Hurricanes in a game that puts one of these teams in the lead in the Coastal division, as there are 4 teams locked up for first. Last week the Hokies pulled off the minor upset when they beat No. 23 Maryland 23-13, on the other hand the Hurricanes also got a win, as they snuck past Virginia 24-17 in overtime. The oddsmakers are going with the Hurricanes in this one, as Miami comes in 4 point favorites over the Hokies at BetUS.com

This is the final road game for the Hokies, and a win this week could allow this team to move near the top of the division with just Duke and Virginia left in the regular season. So there is still a good shot this team can sneak into a BCS game this season. Last week the Hokies offense was carried by the legs of Darren Evans who set a school record with 253 yards on the ground plus had one of the Hokies 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Sean Glennon was as solid as he needed to be, as he completed 14 of 20 passes including a 5 yard strike to Greg Boone to get the scoring underway for both teams in the 1st quarter. Its not likely Evans will have anywhere near the same kind of day against the Hurricanes, as they will likely need to move the ball through the air.

The defense for the Hokies was solid giving up just 13 points, and only 1 touchdown that came in the 3rd quarter. The run defense was spectacular, as the Terrapins had -12 rushing yards on the game thanks to the Hokies who stacked the box and had 3 sacks and a forced fumble in this one. Now the Hurricanes come in with another solid rushing attack, and it will be up to this unit to find a way to play with that same intensity on the road as it did at home last week. The Hurricanes finally look to have things going in the right direction again, and last week they rallied from behind to win on the road. We mentioned the Hokies could be headed for a BCS game, and the Hurricanes have that same shot, but would not only need a win this week, but likely wins in their final two regular season games as well. Now the Hurricanes needed some late magic in this one, as Jacory Harris hit Laron Byrd for a touchdown in the final minute to tie the game up, and then found Aldarius Johnson for a score in overtime for the win. Harris wound up with 160 yards in split action with Robert Marve, but the offense relied mostly on their running game, as Graig Cooper racked up 131 yards, while Javarris James added another 55. We have already mentioned the Hokies run defense is really good, and it will be a battle of whether Miami’s offensive line can create some running room for Cooper and James.

The Hurricanes defense is the real reason for the win last week, as they responded big time after allowing 17 first half points, to shut out the Cavaliers the remainder of the game. The Hurricanes also displayed some solid run defense, as they held Virginia to just 78 yards on 24 carries. The Hurricanes also helped out the offense as they forced two big fumbles in this one, but the offense can’t be losing the turnover battle again, as they were -1 in that category last week.
