What’s the Vig?

Written by -

A common question bettors ask is: what’s the vig?  The simple answer is that vigorish is the sportsbooks cut for taking your wager.  Vig is something that you have to be familiar with if you are going to come out on top, as the vig has a pretty big impact on whether you win or lose money by the end of the season.

Typically, if a bettor wants to win $10, then he has to risk $11.  The extra dollar is seen as the book’s commission for taking the action.  This format is known as -110 pricing and because of the vig, a player has to win close to 52.4% of his bets just to break even!

Let’s say you manage to win 54% of the wagers you place.  After 100 bets you would net $34 if every bet you made was $10.

This is one of the reasons that I personally like 5 Dimes.  At 5 Dimes you get reduced juice wagering which lowers the vigorous for the player.  This means you have to win only 51.2% of your bets with their -105 pricing to come out even.

If you still can pull off the 54% win rate then you are going to be up $61.60 after 100 plays, which is nearly twice as much compared to if you used a traditional book with a -110 pricing method.  Now you can see why we recommend people sign up at 5 Dimes.  It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned veteran of sports betting or you are a complete beginner.  You’ll save money with the value of the discounted vigorish.

It’s not smart to pass up on the 50% saving in vigorish.  Use the best value of any online sportsbook and choose 5 Dimes for your wagering.  If you want more information, check out our 5 Dimes review.
