Vikings Players Say Brett Favre Will Join Team

Written August 17, 2009 by Jack Jones

vikings-players-favre-to-joinYeah, I know.  Here we go again.  Jay Glazer over at Fox Sports reports that Brett Favre will probably play for the Vikings this year.  This is according to players he interviewed over 2 days at Minnesota’s training came.

Of course all of the players remained “anonymous”, but Glazer says that the majority of players he talked to do believe that Favre will eventually play for the Vikings in the 2009 NFL season.  One player even went as far to say, “I’m telling you it’s already done.  Right after the Indy game.  I don’t think anyone here doesn’t think that.”  While another player stated, “I don’t know if it’s a done deal, but I think he’ll be in by the third preseason game.”

This has the rumor-mill work at full capacity.  Everyone was quick to point out that Favre hates training camp, and that he staged the whole “staying in retirement” thing just so he wouldn’t have to participate in camp.  They’ve also said that Favre needed more time to rest and rehab on his own before he felt comfortable playing football again.  Once again, this is all purely speculative until someone with any merit comes out and confirms any of these reports.  The players who were quoted probably have no idea for sure what is happening, but the comments have certainly raised a lot of eyebrows to reporters and fans who thought they were out of the woods when it comes to covering Favre.

I’m not really a fan of players giving anonymous statements to begin with, but I really don’t like when reporters come out and use their quotes for a story that is potentially as big as this one.  For one, the players have no accountability, so they can pretty much say whatever they want.  The reporter also doesn’t have to be accountable for his quotes.  Glazer is a respected reporter, and I don’t doubt his sources, but not knowing who they really are just doesn’t sit right.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.  That seems to be Favre’s favorite game to play anyway.

I see that the team is nervous that Tavaris Jackson is their #1 option. But whyyy do these reports still happen. I love Favre and want him to play, but it needs to be the yes or no decision and be done with it.

I agree. Training camp is over so it’s time for him to play in some games. I’d be PISSED if I am Rosenfels or Jackson.
