Vikings at Rams Spread

The 4-0 Minnesota Vikings visit the 0-4 St. Louis Rams Sunday in the dome. Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings are coming off their biggest win of the season, a 30-23 home win over Favre’s former team in the Green Bay Packers Monday night. The Rams look to get it going offensively after getting shut out by the San Francisco 49ers, 0-35, last weekend. Check out the NFL spreads that show the Vikings -10 over the Rams with a total set of 41 points if you are looking to bet on pro football in this contest.
Brett Favre proved that he could still air it out on Monday, throwing three touchdown passes in the win. Adrian Peterson was held to just 55 rushing yards on 25 carries, so Favre was asked to do it on his own and he did not disappoint. It is clear that his partially torn bicep in his throwing arm is healed, and he is throwing the ball with just as much velocity as he did in his mid-20’s. The difference is that Favre is making smarter decisions, sitting with 8 touchdowns to just 1 interception this year. He has thrown for a combined 572 yards in his last two games, both big wins over the Packers and 49ers. On the season he has completed 68% of his passes for 837 yards. Favre was with the Jets last year when they handed the Rams their worst loss of the season, a 47-3 victory in the Meadowlands. Peterson should be in line for a big game Sunday against a Rams’ defense that is allowing 135.0 rushing yards/game, good for 24th in the league at stopping the run.
St. Louis is having trouble finding their identity, and so far it’s been a losing one over the last three seasons. Dating back to 2007, the Rams are just 5-31 in their last 36 games overall. Not to mention they have lost 14 straight games and currently own the league’s longest losing streak since the Detroit Lions finally got a win earlier this year. It doesn’t appear that losing streak is going to end any time soon, because frankly the Rams really haven’t even been competitive this year. They did lose 7-9 at Washington, but the Rams were dominated in that game statistically and it was a much bigger blowout than the final score indicated. Kyle Boller started his first game since 2007 in last week’s 0-35 loss to the 49ers, competing 13-of-24 passes for 108 yards and one interception. He is likely to get another start this week since Marc Bulger remains questionable with a shoulder injury, and it appears he is at least another week away from returning. The Rams rank 31st in total offense at 265 yards/game, and they have been shut out twice along with a league-worst 24 points on the season. The Rams did beat the Vikings in their last meeting with Minnesota, 41-21 back in 2006. RB Steven Jackson rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns in the win, but he’ll have his hands full against one of the league’s top run defenses. The Vikings haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in 27 straight games.
Got something to say?
