Vikings at Steelers NFL Picks
Written October 25, 2009 by Jack Jones
This is the game that everyone will be focuses on as the Minnesota Vikings head to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. The NFL odds makers are giving the edge to the home team though, as Pitt is currently listed as 6-point favorites with the total set at 46. Three of our guys have free NFL picks going on this game. Let’s take a look at what Rocky Atkinson has: Minnesota is 5-1 OVER in all games this year. Minnesota is 8-2 OVER the past 3 years in non-conference games. Minnesota is scoring 31.5 points per game overall this year and 33 points per game on the road this season. Pittsburgh is scoring 26 points per game at home this year. Over is 9-0 in Vikings last 9 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. Over is 7-1 in Vikings last 8 games as a road underdog. Over is 34-16-3 in Vikings last 53 games following a ATS loss. Over is 23-9-1 in Steelers last 33 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Over is 41-17-2 in Steelers last 60 home games. Over is 38-16-2 in Steelers last 56 games as a home favorite. I’m expecting these two to light it up here today. We’ll recommend a small play on OVER THE TOTAL today!
Freddy Wills is taking the Steelers: This is a big chance for the Steelers to get into the talks of being the NFL’s best team as nobody has mentioned them as being one despite being the reigning Super Bowl Champions. I expect a big time game from the Steelers and I expect them to flex their muscles. Vikings are off to a great start, but they have struggled against solid teams and that was in their own building where they collapsed last weekend against the Ravens and had a prayer against the 49ers. Don’t get me wrong I like this team, and I think they are among the NFC’s elite, but who have they played on the road. Let’s have a look shall we? Road games @ Browns, Rams, and Lions arguably the three worst teams in the NFL. They have faced an average defense ranked 22nd, and today they’ll face one of the best getting their star player in Troy Polamolou back. This is not a great time to be going on the road especially for a dome team. Take the points with the Steelers!
Dave Price is also riding Pitt: I expect the Vikes to fall in their first true road test of the season against a Steelers team that is finding its stride with 3 straight wins of 8 points or more. Minnesota’s defense struggled to defend the pass against the Ravens last week and that figures to haunt the Vikes here. Minnesota is 1-10 ATS in road games after allowing 7 or more yards/play in their previous game since 1992. Pittsburgh is 11-2 ATS in home games after gaining 300 or more passing yards in last game since 1992. Roethlisberger is having an MVP season and I expect him to carve up the Minnesota secondary today. Lay the number.
