The Detroit Lions came into Sunday having lost 18 straight games dating back to the 2007 season. NFL lines set for this meeting with Minnesota had the Vikings listed as 10-point road favorites. If you are someone who partook in NFL wagering and you had Minnesota, you were probably a little nervous early. Let’s see how this game played out with a Week 2 NFL recap of the events that took place. Detroit fans had to think this was going to be their week to get over the hump and capture their first win in about 21 months. The Lions jumped out to a 10-0 lead after an 8-yard touchdown strike from Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson, a TD combo we might see for many years to come. The Vikings answered with a 1-yard touchdown pass from Brett Favre to tight end Visanthe Shiancoe with 1:04 remaining in the first half to get within 7-10 at the break. From there, it was all Minnesota. The Vikings went on to score 20 unanswered points, including a 27-yard touchdown run from Adrian Peterson and a 3-yard TD grab from Favre to rookie Percy Harvin. The Lions tacked on a meaningless field goal with 2:37 remaining to make the final score 27-13 in favor of the Vikings.

Favre started his 271st consecutive regular season game, setting another NFL record to add to his illustrious career. Favre did it in style too, completing 23-of-27 passes for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both teams put up 265 yards of total offense, so give a lot of credit to Detroit’s defense for hanging tough. The Lions’ offense committed 3 turnovers to Minnesota’s 1, which was really the difference in the game. The Lions actually out-rushed the Vikings 129-111 behind 84 yards from Kevin Smith. Peterson finished with 92 rushing yards for Minnesota and a score. Both Smith and Peterson lost fumbles, though, which is a sign that both are still young and each has to learn the importance of taking care of the football.
