Virginia Tech vs. Boston College Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 2, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Now there might not have been a conference more closely matched than the ACC this season, as 10 of the 12 teams in the conference finished within at least 1 game of first place, but the two teams playing for the Conference Championship this season will once again be Boston College and Virginia Tech, as they meet for the 4th time in two seasons, as these two teams locked up in the regular season in both of the past two seasons, and the Conference Championship a year ago. Last year Boston College won the regular season bout, but lost in the Championship, and are hoping that trend doesn’t stick, as the Eagles beat the Hokies 28-23 earlier this season. If you are looking to do some NCAA football betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Eagles coming in 1 point favorites over the Hokies at Sportsbook.com
Virginia Tech tied with Georgia Tech for first in the Coastal division, but thanks to a win over the Yellow Jackets the Hokies get a shot at playing in a BCS game this season. The Hokies have won 3 of their last 4 including a 17-14 win over rival Virginia last week, where the Hokies ran wild for 216 yards, including 109 from Vic Hall who had touchdown runs from 40 and 16 yards out. The Hokies offense really struggled against Boston College in the game earlier this season, as they struggled to run and pass, but still had a chance to win the game. The Hokies will definitely try and get the running game going against the Eagles, as they were able to throw for just 90 yards.
Now the Hokies defense played great in the first matchup against BC, as they not only created 5 turnovers, they got a 36 yard interception for a touchdown from Brett Warren, as the Hokies intercepted Chris Crane 3 times. Now Boston College still out gained the Hokies, but they really shut down the Eagles running game, allowing Boston College to run for just 82 yards on 37 carries. Now the defense can’t expect to get another 5 turnovers in this one, so this unit is going to have to find another way from keeping the Eagles from putting points on the board. The defense has been playing good over the last 4 games, as they haven’t allowed more than 16 points, so the defense has the talent to make this one close. Bet Virginia Tech +1 at Sportsbook.com
Now the Eagles come in rolling, as they have won 4 straight games, including road wins over Florida State and Wake Forest. In their last game against Maryland the Eagles weren’t all that impressive, but with a little trickery including a fake field touchdown pass from Billy Flutie to Jordon McMichael the Eagles did enough to bring home the win. Against the Hokies the Eagles started out strong scoring 28 first half points, but were shutout in the second half. Now we already mentioned the Eagles turnover problems in the first matchup, there is no question the focus will be on securing the football in this one, as the Eagles have to be confident they can win if they do just that.
The Eagles defense was lights out against the run last week, as they held Maryland to negative 6 rushing yards, but had its struggles against the pass, as the Terrapins threw for 360 yards and 2 scores, but the Eagles continue to force turnovers and last week they had two interceptions with one going to Robert Francois for a 36 yard touchdown. Against Virginia Tech earlier this season, the Eagles had an interception, but the big play came from Rich Gunnell who returned a punt 65 yards for a score. Now these are two evenly matched teams, and its going to be who makes the big plays and which defense steps up the most, as both offenses have the talent to score and make mistakes.
