Week 3 NFL Predictions
Written September 25, 2009 by Jason Lowry
The NFL is in full swing, as we approach week 3 this Sunday. This can be a make or break week for many teams, as there are 9 teams still without a loss and another 9 teams that still have yet to put a win up this season. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting on the games this weekend, I am giving out 10 free plays to our readers. For each game I used NFL odds found at Sportsbook.com.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5) vs Houston Texans (-3.5)
The Jaguars have not looked good at all to start the 2009 season, and I don’t think you can expect much out of this team on the road this weekend. The Texans offense finally got it going in their upset win over the Titans last week, and while their defense isn’t the best, they should win this game pretty easily.
Predicted Score: Texans 31 Jaguars 20
New Orleans Saints vs. Buffalo Bills Over/Under 52
The Saints have the most explosive offense in the NFL with quarterback Drew Brees under center, and they won’t have any problem scoring against a pretty good Bills defense this Sunday. The Saints don’t have the best defense in the world, and they go up against a Bills offense that scored 33 points last week against the Buccaneers.
Predicted Score: Saints 34 Bills 27
New York Jets vs. Tennessee Titans Over/Under 37
Two very good defense go at each other in this one, and the Jets defense just might be the best the NFL has to offer, at least after the first two games of the season. I think both offenses struggle big time in this one.
Predicted Score: Jets 10 Titans 17
Atlanta Falcons (+4.5) vs. New England Patriots (-4.5)
This is one of the best matchups this weekend, as the Falcons have the chance to go on the road and beat the Pats to move to 3-0, but unfortunately I don’t see that happening. Look for Tom Brady and the Patriots to bounce back big in week 3.
Predicted Score: Falcons 24 Pats 34
Washington Redskins (-6.5) vs. Detroit Lions (+6.5)
The Lions will win a game this season, but sorry Lions fans its not going to be this weekend. The Redskins match up very well with the Lions, and this should end up being a blow out late.
Predicted Score: Redskins 28 Lions 10
Miami Dolphins (+6) vs. San Diego Chargers (-6)
This is a very interesting matchup, as I think the Dolphins match up pretty well with the Chargers on both sides of the ball. I don’t know if the Dolphins will pull out the win, but I like them to cover the six points.
Predicted Score: Dolphins 21 Chargers 23
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (+4)
I think the Bengals are a much better team than they have led on after two weeks of play, and I think they make a statement with a big win over the Steelers this weekend. This is by far the biggest upset I see happening this weekend.
Predicted Score: Steelers 17 Bengals 20
Indianapolis Colts (+2.5) vs. Arizona Cardinals (-2.5)
This is another game that could end up being one of the best games of the weekend. After watching Peyton Manning pick apart the Dolphins last week, I don’t give the Cardinals D any shot in this one. I also like the Colts pass rush against a very slow Kurt Warner.
Predicted Score: Colts 31 Cardinals 27
San Francisco 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings Over/Under 39
I think the Vikings definitely have the edge going into this game, but I don’t think we will see a huge week out of running back Adrian Peterson, and for that I don’t think the score of this game is going to be very high at all. Look for the 49ers to surprise some people and keep this game close down to the wire.
Predicted Score: 49ers 13 Vikings 20
Carolina Panthers (+8.5) vs. Dallas Cowboys (-8.5)
I finish up with my prediction for the Monday night game between the Panthers and Cowboys, and I think the Panthers surprise some people by keeping this game a lot closer than the spread. I think the Cowboys win thanks to a huge day from Felix Jones on the ground, but I don’t have them winning by more than a touchdown.
Predicted Score: Panthers 24 Cowboys 31
