Wake Forest Clemson Football Odds & Spread
Written October 16, 2009 by Riley Martin
Saturday brings another crucial week in college football, especially in the Atlantic division of ACC, the most wide-open division in the nation. For the PAC-10, SEC, BIG 12, and BIG EAST fans that could care less about the ACC, I have to say that you may want to tune in a little more. Yes, it’s been an abnormal start to the season and somewhat embarrassing for some teams like Florida State, but that doesn’t make it uninteresting. It’s wide open, making this a critical game for both Jim Grobe and Dabo Swinney. Wake Forest has shown to have better coaching so far, especially on offense, but Clemson undoubtedly has better athletes. So what’s it going to be? The Demon Deacons hold a slight lead in the division as of now, but Clemson is nowhere near out of reach to win it. The college football lines actually have Clemson as 7-point favorites at home anyway. Game time is 12pm Eastern at Death Valley.
Wake Forest has played pretty well so far this season, though this will definitely be there toughest test yet. Playing at Death Valley isn’t something to be laughed at. In fact, Wake Forest has only won twice there in the past forty years; just something to think about. It also gets extremely loud in Clemson; Demon Deacon linebacker Dominique Midgett said this in a recent interview: “you can’t prepare yourself for it, my freshman year I traveled to Nebraska and it was loud. Then I went to Clemson and it was louder. I’m trying to give the young guys the message that you won’t be able to hear.” Wake will definitely have their hands full in this matchup but they have indeed impressed so far, especially through their offense, which has been just as potent as the offenses of Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Miami so far. They actually rank second in the ACC right now with 426 yards per game. Their star quarterback Riley Skinner is definitely not one to be overlooked, as he already owns the completion and pass efficiency records at Wake Forest. Oh, and is also the winningest quarterback in school history with 30 wins. If you plan to do any college football betting, we recommend you take advantage of this massive $500 match bonus at BetUS!
Clemson’s has shown signs of the amount of talent they have, but have come nowhere near to living up to their capabilities. On the good side, the defense is nationally recognized and in the top of the ACC. DaQuan Bowers, sophomore defensive end is also really coming around. He was a top 5 recruit nationally coming out of high school but had struggled in his freshman year. Two weeks ago at Maryland, however, he busted out of his shell and recorded two sacks. Ok, now here’s the bad news for Clemson. The offense has been atrocious so far, with the exception of the second half of the Georgia Tech game. Quarterback Kyle Parker has been extremely inconsistent and hasn’t really gotten anything going. In recent games, half of the touchdowns scored, were kick or punt returns from star CJ Spiller, who may be best returner in football. It is a matter of time though, and I believe Clemson will perform much better this week at home coming off a bye week.
Like I said, Wake Forest has won at Clemson 2 times in the past forty years. If that doesn’t do anything for you, then ill let you know that Clemson owns 56 career wins over Wake Forest, its second most of any team, only trailing their rival South Carolina. Two years ago when Wake came to Death Valley it was a 44-10 Tiger victory. It won’t be near that bad but Clemson is in desperate need right now. Take the points on Clemson.
Riley’s Pick: Clemson -7
Prediction: Clemson 27-17
