Wake Forest vs. Clemson Football Betting Odds & Spread

This Thursday the Clemson Tigers (3-2) will look to get back on track in the ACC when they head to the road to take on the No. 21 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-1), who come in leading the Atlantic division of the ACC. Both teams are coming in after suffering a loss at home, as the Tigers were upset by Maryland 20-17, and Wake Forest was upended by Navy 24-17. With both teams coming in off pretty shaky performances the oddsmakers have this one pretty close, as Wake Forest comes in as 2.5 point favorites over Clemson at Bookmaker.com
Clemson had seemed to get back on track after a loss to Alabama to open the season, as they rolled off 3 straight wins, but after the loss last week you have to wonder just where this team is headed. The Tigers dominated the first half against Maryland, but were unable to get anything at all going in the 2nd half. Quarterback Cullen Harper was solid throwing the ball, and running backs James Davis and CJ Spiller both ran the ball effectively, but if this unit can’t play 4 full quarters of football they will struggle to get by the Deacons this weekend.

The Clemson defense was also a tale of two halves, as they really clamped down on Maryland in the first half, but let up some big plays in the 2nd half, and really struggled to stop the Terrapins when needed. This week the Tigers will have take on a Demon Deacons offense that has been unable to get much of a ground game going, so stopping the pass will likely be one of the top priorities going into this one. Getting to Wake Forest they started off the season great winning 3 straight, including a very impressive win on the road against Florida State. The Demon Deacons offense is led by the play of quarterback Riley Skinner, who has thrown for 974 yards and 6 touchdowns, while completing nearly 69% of his passes. We have already mentioned that the team has struggled on the ground, and that was clearly shown in their loss to Navy when they ran 31 times for just 43 yards. If the ground game continues to struggle this unit will struggle to win ball games.
The defense of the Demon Deacons was wore down on the ground against Navy, as they ran the ball a whopping 59 times for 292 yards. Though Navy rarely passes the ball, as they had just 4 attempts the whole game, giving up that kind of success on the ground isn’t as bad as it might seem. This unit has the ability to really shut down a team, as the showed against the Seminoles when they allowed them just 3 points. They will definitely get a test this weekend, and with a little extra boost from the home crowd, don’t expect an offensive explosion from the Tigers. Bet Wake Forest -2.5 at Bookmaker.com
