Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine Preview & Prediction
May 20, 2008
With a fight card full of great fights UFC 84 Ill Will is guaranteed to be a great night of fighting. Today we are going to take a closer look to the fight between Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva and Keith ” The Dean of Mean” Jardine. The fight is set to place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be part of the under card for the BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk main event. This fight is sure to leave fans happy, as both fighters love to swing away and want nothing more than to knock the other guy out. Lets take a little closer look at both fighters and who we think will come away victorious.
Wanderlei Silva -160 at Bodoglife.com
Silva comes in at 31-8-1 and there is no secret that when this guy comes into the ring you know you are in for one hell of a fight. Silva brings everything he has at you in hopes that he can land enough blows to send his opponent to the floor. Silva made a name for himself while fighting for PRIDE, but back in the UFC Silva has quickly become a fan favorite because of his fighting style. In his last fight in the UFC Silva loss by unanimous decision to Chuck Liddell in one of the better fights we have seen over the last couple of years. Jardine better be ready for a big time fight or this one will be over early.
Keith Jardine +130 at Bodoglife.com
Jardine is a well-rounded fighter that isn’t scared to get in a dogfight with someone. At the age of 32 Jardine has a MMA record of 13-4-1 and is continuing to move closer to the title shot many people believe he might already deserve. Jardine has some big wins including his most recent coming against Liddell by split decision back in September of last year. Other big wins include a TKO of Forrest Griffin at UFC 66 and a unanimous decision over Wilson Gouveia in the Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale.
Winner: Keith Jardine +130 at Bodoglife.com
This was one of the toughest fights of the weekend for us to pick, but feel that while Silva is proven, Jardine is one hell of a fighter himself. The other reason that has us leaning towards Jardine is the fact that Silva is many times more concerned with the show he puts on instead of the result of the outcome. Jardine is hungry and with a win over a guy like Silva there will be no question on whether this guy should get a title shot or not. While the fight likely won’t make it to the final round, the longer it goes the better the changes go to Jardine, as Siva will likely tire from his onslaught of punches in the early rounds of the fight. If we had to pick a round we would say an early 2nd round win by TKO for Jardine.
