Washington vs Notre Dame Football Odds
Written September 30, 2009 by Rock Henderson
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will host the Washington Huskies Saturday afternoon in an interesting match-up that features two of the top quarterbacks in the nation. Irish QB Jimmy Clausen has led Notre Dame to wins in three of their first four games, but has been bothered by an ankle injury recently.
Washington created a lot of buzz after their shocking 16-13 upset of USC. After cracking the Top 25, they were dominated by a strong Stanford team 34-14 to drop out of the polls.
Husky QB Jake Locker is one of the more exciting players in the nation and will have an opportunity to showcase his talent in front of a national audience. Looking at the latest NCAA football lines for this game Washington is listed as a 13 point underdog.
Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian had to be riding high after Washington’s upset win over his good friend Pet Carroll’s USC squad. The victory shot UW all the way to #24 in the rankings, but they were still an eight point underdog at Stanford last weekend.
The Cardinal were able to rush for 290 yards in the 20 point blowout that had to leave Washington wondering how good their team really is. Jake Locker has been the offensive catalyst, throwing for over 1000 yards and six touchdown passes in four games.

The junior QB is also capable of beating opposing defenses on the ground with is sub 4.5 speed. Locker is surrounded by youth which has made it difficult for the Huskies to show any type of consistency on offense this season.
The defensive side of the ball has been an area of weakness. Opposing teams are rushing for over 195 yards per game against the Husky D, which ranks 106th in the nation. Their pass defense has been respectable, but most teams haven’t had to worry about throwing the ball when they are gaining huge yardage on the ground. If the defense catches up with the offense, the Huskies could contend for their first bowl berth since 2002.
The Fighting Irish know that they could easily be 4-0 heading into Saturday’s game against Washington, but also are close to being 1-3. Notre Dame will join the Pac-10 conference for their next two games as USC comes to town a week after UW.
Jimmy Clausen has had an impressive junior campaign that has improved his NFL stock, ranking 4th in passing efficiency by throwing for over 1100 yards and 10 touchdowns with only one interception. When star WR Michael Floyd broke his collarbone, Notre Dame had to restructure its offensive plan to evolve more around the running game.
Talented WR Golden Tate took direct snaps against Purdue to make up for the loss of starting RB Armando Allen Jr. The Irish defense is led by SS Kyle McCarthy with his 37 tackles and three interceptions. Their main concern this weekend will be containing a dangerous Locker as he goes the Washington offense goes.
Notre Dame is 7-0 against Washington lifetime and has outscored the Huskies by an average of 27 points per game. Many of the 18 returning starters from Washington will remember only having 51 total yards to start the fourth quarter against the Irish last year. This is a different Washington team and laying an egg at Stanford last Saturday will only provide extra motivation to perform at a higher level at Notre Dame.
