Washington at Stanford College Football Betting Odds

Written September 24, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The Washington Huskies are coming off the biggest victory for their program in years and they are looking for that win to help propel them to a surprisingly strong season. The Stanford Cardinal are a team that is on the rise as well, with the help of coach Jim Harbaugh. This weekend Washington will travel to Stanford in a game that should prove to be a test as to which of these two up and coming teams will be more of a factor in the Pac 10 conference throughout the year.

The Washington Huskies went 0-12 last season, but that seems so long ago after their massive win at home against USC last weekend. The Huskies have a sensational dual-threat quarterback in Jake Locker. Locker was hurt most of last year, but he is healthy now and he is proving to be a terrific team leader. Locker has only thrown one interception through three games and he has shown great ability to stand in the pocket and deliver a good pass. Since Locker is such a good runner the Huskies are able to run option plays or quarterback draws to keep the defense off balance. Though they aren’t necessarily top notch yet, the Washington defense appears to be much improved from last year’s squad. The team held USC to just 13 points and did a pretty good job of stopping LSU’s powerful offense as well.  If you bet college football, get the $500 match bonus with BetUS this season!

Stanford and Jim Harbaugh are definitely moving in the right direction and this year it is star quarterback recruit freshman Andrew Luck at the helm for the Cardinal. Luck was the seventh ranked quarterback in the entire nation last year and was the best recruit Stanford has picked up in quite a while. The offense has also gotten a nice boost from senior tailback Toby Gerhart. An improving wide receiver corps and a pretty good line make the Cardinal a pretty formidable offensive team. The defense is a work in progress, but they will need to improve a little more for the Cardinals to have a lot of success against the best teams in the conference.

The college football odds currently show the Stanford as an 8 point favorite over Washington. The Cardinal have proven to be a very tough team at home, with a 7-0 record against the spread in their last 7 games at Stanford Stadium. Look for Stanford to come out and try to jump on the Huskies early with ball control and long drives down the field. When the Huskies have the ball it will be all about Jake Locker and his ability to get the offense moving. The Cardinal will likely try to make Locker beat them by throwing the football rather than running the ball.

Washington has yet to play a game on the road this season and Stanford has a pretty strong home field advantage, so I think the play in this game is probably Stanford.

Aaron’s Edge: Stanford -8
