Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm ET this Saturday as Oregon State (6-3) hosts the Washington Huskies (3-6) in Pac-10 play at Reesing Stadium in Corvallis. The college football odds have picked Oregon State by 12 and the total has been set at 57. The Beavers are coming off a 31-14 road win against Cal last weekend which makes it two in a row and 4 out of 5. They’re sporting a 4-2 conference record and are looking to take advantage of a Washington team that is 2-4 in league play. The Huskies were excited about their season in week three after posting a 2-1 record and upsetting USC, ranked #3 at the time. Since then they’ve lost 5 of 6 games including a heartbreaker last week to UCLA, 23-24. As a unit the offense has been respectable, averaging 367 ypg and scoring 22 td’s on the back of QB Jake Locker. Locker has done a good job distributing the ball this year, as three recievers have over 30 receptions a piece and 10 scores. For the year he’s posted over 2200 yards passing for 14 td’s, and is a threat to run the ball with 230 yards and 4 more scores to his credit. Chris Polk leads the charge rushing for 773 and 3 td’s.
The defensive side of the ball has given up more td’s and needs the most work. Against a struggling UCLA team they allowed 455 total yards, 28 more than their average. They still lost the game despite coming up with 5 takeaways, which was a highlight for a unit that hasn’t done well in that category. They’ll need to be better against a balanced Oregon State attack, and must improve on the 29.1 ppg to have a chance at the upset this week. For more expert football picks check out Betfirms.
QB Sean Canfield is a major reason why the Beavers still have a shot at the Pac-1o title. He’s had a great year, throwing for 2381 yards and 13 td’s to 5 picks. Limiting turnovers has been key, as the team has committed a total of 6. Canfield has had a great backfield and receiving tandem to go to in the Rodgers brothers. Jacquizz leads the team in rushing with 109 ypg average and an impressive 15 scores, while catching 58 passes for another. His brother James is 2nd in rushing with 237 yards and a td, and leads the team with 66 receptions and 6 receiving td’s. Of the 31 td’s scored, these two account for 23!
The defensive side of the ball has been doing a great job stopping the run. They held Cal to 39 yards rushing, well below their average of 100.3. While that is a definite strength, the unit has struggled to pressure QB’s and force turnovers. On the year they have only 10 takeaways and 10 sacks. Because of the lack of pressure, opposing teams have found success in the air, throwing for 260 ypg, and OSU will no doubt be looking to find new ways to flush Jake Locker out of the pocket.
Washington is hoping to make it to bowl eligibility, and must get the win this week to do so. However, the Beavers are playing great football and the Huskies defense has proven themselves susceptible. Despite leading the overall storied history 57-32-4, Oregon State will get the win and beat the 12 point spread. For more game breakdowns or NCAA football picks check out Betfirms.
