NFL Power Rankings: Week 2
Written September 24, 2009 by Rock Henderson
.) New York Giants-If their young wide receivers continue to develop, the offense should flourish. Won with defense in Week 1 and outscored the Cowboys in Week 2. Nice mix.
.)Â Baltimore Ravens- Making a cross country trip to take down AFC favorite San Diego caught my attention. QB Joe Flacco seems to be making the transition into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
.) New Orleans Saints- 93 points in two weeks is mind numbing. Brees has been aided by strong running game to go with the usual Saint aerial attack.
.) Pittsburgh Steelers- One tough loss shouldn’t drop them much. What happened to Willie Parker and the Steeler run game?
.) Minnesota Vikings- Beat up on Detroit and Cleveland, but looked impressive doing so. Will be interesting to see how Favre reacts to a defense that can stop the run. This week the NFL odds have the Vikings installed as 6.5 point favorites against the San Francisco 49ers.
.) Indianapolis Colts- Have to find a second WR to be labeled true contender. Manning stole a victory in Miami Monday night.
.) Atlanta Falcons- Would be higher but have played first two games in Georgia Dome. First road test is a tough one in New England.
.) New York Jets- Defense is flying around the ball and offense is scoring enough to win. Tough match-up with desperate Tennessee team this Sunday
.) New England Patriots- Missing Wes Welker against New York was a big deal that wasn’t talked about much. Time for the real Tom Brady to stand up.
.) Philadelphia Eagles- Still like their team, but not with Kevin Kolb running it. The Eagle defense was exposed against New Orleans.
.) San Francisco 49ers- Defense has taken on head coach’s mentality. Frank Gore has to stay healthy if they want to keep this run going.
.) San Diego Chargers- Questionable play call on 4th and 2 against the Ravens sealed the loss. Defense has issues that need addressed.
.) Green Bay Packers- Packers defense that looked great against Chicago was shredded by Cincinnati. Rodgers saw many dropped balls in Week 2. If you bet the NFL, get a $500 match bonus with BetUS this season.
.) Chicago Bears- Jay Cutler cut down on the interceptions and the Bears won. Defense played well in first game without MLB Brian Urlacher
.) Arizona Cardinals- Kurt Warner was on target against Jacksonville, completing 24 of 26 passes. Home loss to 49ers might not be as bad as some think.
.) Houston Texans- Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson burned the Titans secondary for two scores and almost 200 yards. Middle of the pack team until they show some consistency.
.) Tennessee Titans- Too talented of a team to be 0-2. Time to panic if they don’t pull out a win in New York.
.) Dallas Cowboys- Tony Romo must find a better way to take care of the ball. Cowboys young secondary has to improve quickly.
.) Buffalo Bills- One meltdown away from being 2-0 and turning heads. RB Fred Jackson not ready to give up starting spot just yet.
.) Denver Broncos
.) Seattle Seahawks
.) Miami Dolphins
.) Carolina Panthers
.) Cincinnati Bengals
.) Washington Redskins
.) Oakland Raiders
.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers
.) Jacksonville Jaguars
.) Kansas City Chiefs
.) Cleveland Browns
.) St Louis Rams
.) Detroit Lions

Got something to say?

How are the Bengals so 24th? They beat the Pack at Lambeau… and very well “should” be 2-0 if it weren’t for a freak play against the Broncos. Their offense appeared to be rolling vs. the Packers and that game could have been a blowout if they make a couple plays. Finally, they established a great running game last week with Benson!
