Week 3 College Football Point Spreads

Written by

There are some great match ups in college football on the horizon.  Let’s take a look at the odds for some of the biggest games in week three of the college football season (see all of the betting lines for this week on our college football odds page).

Thursday September 15, 2011

8:00 PM EST |  LSU at Mississippi State (LSU -3, O/U 50) -LSU basically had the day off last Saturday, easily rolling over FCS school Northwestern State 49-3.  Mississippi State out gained Auburn in just about every statistical category, but key mistakes sent the Bulldogs home with a loss.  Great offense (Mississippi State) against great defense (LSU) should make for an exciting game Thursday night.

12:00 PM EST |  Penn State at Temple (Penn State -9.5, O/U 45) -Temple is an up-and-coming program that has rolled over their last two opponents.  They played PSU tough last season, eventually losing 13-22, but Owls showed they aren’t going to give the Nittany Lions an easy non-conference win.  Penn State turned the ball over 3 times and never really looked comfortable on offense in a, 11-27 loss to Alabama last Saturday.  This week is a chance for them to beat a good team and try to get the season back on track.

12:00 PM EST |  Pittsburgh at Iowa (Iowa -3.5, O/U 50.5) – Pitt is 2-0, but just got past FCS Maine last week 35-29.  Iowa was shocked by in-state rival Iowa State 41-44 in triple overtime.  Neither squad has looked particularly sharp to start the season.  Pitt really has nothing to lose here and plenty to gain if they pull out a victory.  The Hawkeyes could be looking at losing record heading into conference play.

3:30 PM EST |  Michigan State at Notre Dame (Notre Dame -5, O/U 51.5) – Despite starting the season 0-2, Notre Dame has looked great offensively in their first two games.  There is still time to salvage their season, but fans are surely getting impatient.  Michigan State has coasted to a 2-0 record against some weak competition, this will be the game where we find out if they are really a top 15 team or not.

3:30 PM EST | Tennessee at Florida (Florida -9, O/U 50.5) – Surprising line here considering the Gators really haven’t been tested, while the Vols looked great in their first real test of the season against Cincinnati last week.  I’d keep an eye on this number.

7:00 PM EST |  Louisville at Kentucky (Kentucky -7, O/U 41) – This in-state rivalry would be a lot more intriguing had Louisville not lost to Florida International last week.  There still should be a great atmosphere in and around the game.

7:30 PM EST |  Ohio State at Miami (Miami -3, O/U 48) – Could have been a great matchup if the Miami program wasn’t in such a mess.  Ohio State “scandal” isn’t even comparable, but this will be billed as a game between cheaters.  Buckeyes had a bit of a scare against Toledo last week, but were great in their season opener against Akron.  Who knows which team shows up.  Miami gets extra time to prepare with their bye coming last week.

8:00 PM EST |  Oklahoma at Florida State (Oklahoma -3.5, O/U 55) -This is being hyped as one of the biggest games of this college football season and neither team has done anything to lead us to believe it won’t be exactly that.  The Sooners got an extra week to prepare with their bye, but Florida State can’t really complain after getting to boost their confidence by blasting a pair of cupcakes (Louisiana-Monroe & Charleston Southern) to start their season.
