Week 3 College Football Predictions
Written September 18, 2009 by Anthony Moretti
#7 Cal opens up Saturday on the road against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are 2-0 to start the season, but they’ll have a tough time containing this explosive offense on turf. Prediction: Cal 35, Minnesota 17
The North Carolina Tar Heels host in-state rival East Carolina. The #19 Heels are favored by 7.5, but should probably be favored by more. Prediction: North Carolina 28, East Carolina 13
#23 Kansas hosts Duke this week. This would be an epic battle on the basketball court, but on the football field the Jayhawks should dominate. Kansas 42, Duke 10
Ohio State is currently ranked #11 after their loss to USC last week. Expect them to take out some frustration on Toledo here. Ohio State 45, Toledo 21
#5 Penn State should coast to 3-0 against an awful Temple team. Penn State 49, Temple 10
Alabama is a huge 39.5 point favorite versus North Texas. The Tide have the goods, but that’s a lot of points to cover. Alabama 48, North Texas 19
The nation’s #1 team, Florida faces a Tennessee team fresh off of a huge letdown against UCLA. Florida has some motivation after Kiffin ran off at the mouth earlier this year. The Gators still win, but cover the 29.5? That’s a stretch. Florida 45, Tennessee 20

#3 USC faces a Washington team that looks to be on the rebound. They are still miles behind the Trojans in terms of talent, however. USC 38, Washington 17
Oregon hosts #16 Utah. The Utes are a 5 point dogs, but this is a game they should win. Utah 31, Oregon 28
Two top 25 teams clash as the Virginia Tech Hokies host Nebraska. No easy winner here, this one stays around the spread. Virginia Tech 21, Nebraska 17
The #12 Oklahoma Sooners are still reeling from their week one loss to BYU, but Tulsa should provide a confidence boost. Oklahoma 35, Tulsa 7
The loser of the Cincinnati/Oregon State clash might be out of the top 25 next week. I like the Bearcats on the road in this spot. Cincinnati 27, Oregon State 14
#9 BYU hopes to keep their perfect record in tact against Florida State, who was nearly upset by Jackson State last week. FSU isn’t that bad, but BYU just might be that good. BYU 35, FSU 28
#7 LSU should collect an easy win over UL Lafayette on Saturday. The cover isn’t a gimme, but it should be a big victory for the Tigers. LSU 40, ULLAF 27
Rice will try to do their best Houston impression against #17 Oklahoma State as they try to knock off the Cowboys at home. It won’t be easy, however, OSU is ticked off. Oklahoma State 54, Rice 10
#20 Georgia hasn’t looked like a top 25 so far this season. Arkansas would gladly take their place. Arkansas 23, Georgia 17
Can Texas Tech pull off another incredible upset over #2 Texas this year? Probably not. Texas 42, Texas Tech 21
