Week 4 NFL Odds

The Detroit Lions finally got a regular season win and we are all thankful for that. Two in a row will be difficult to come by when they hit the road to take on Chicago. QB Jay Cutler seems to have adjusted to the Bears style of football leading the team to two straight wins after his four interception debacle opening night. The Bears are favored by 10 with a total of 38.
Cincinnati shocked the NFL with their comeback win against the Steelers last weekend. The Cleveland Browns haven’t done anything shocking in quite a while besides lose games. An interesting note on this game: the under is 8-2 the last 10 meetings in Cleveland. Looking at the NFL lines for Sunday, the Bengals are favored by 5.5 and the total is set for 38.5
A couple 1-2 teams square off in Houston on Sunday when the Texans host Da Raiders. Houston looks like a playoff team one week and then gets beat by a touchdown at home against Jacksonville the next. It has been confirmed that Raider head coach Tom Cable broke an assistant’s jaw during the preseason. That is more intriguing than their 23-3 loss to Denver last week. Houston is a 9.5 point favorite and the o/u is 41.
Indianapolis is quietly off to another 3-0 start behind future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. The Colts haven’t missed a beat without departed WR Marvin Harrison. Seattle is in desperate need of getting QB Matt Hasselbeck back from injury after they had to settle for six field goal attempts last week against Chicago in a loss. No line out for this game yet
An AFC South match-up takes place in Jacksonville this Sunday when the Tennessee Titans come to town. The Titans are in search of their first victory of 2009 after three tough losses to solid teams. Maurice Jones Drew carried the Jaguars to a 31-24 win at Houston. The Jaguars are a 3 point underdog with a total of 41.5.

The New York Giants look as if they are ready to return to Super Bowl form after bolting to three straight wins to start the season. A fourth is all but a given when they play at Kansas City in Week 4. The Chiefs offense has struggled mightily after Todd Haley fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in the preseason. New York is a 9 point favorite and the total is 42.5 points.
A possible AFC Championship preview takes place in Foxboro when the Patriots host the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Flacco has made his case as a top five QB through three games with big time numbers. The Patriot defense held an explosive Atlanta offense to just 10 points a week ago. The Pats are favored by 2 points with a 44.5 point o/u.
It is tough to say anything positive about Tampa Bay or Washington. Redskin head coach Jim Zorn is on the hot seat and needs a dominant performance to get doubters off his back. Tampa Bay hopes a quarterback change to second year QB Josh Johnson provides some hope for the future. Washington is giving a touchdown at home as the total is set at 37 points.
The Miami Dolphins were the surprise team of 2008 making the playoffs as the Bill Parcels reign began. QB Chad Pennington will need season ending shoulder surgery so on comes ex-Wolverine Chad Henne. The Bills injury list runs about 12 deep and T.O is not a happy camper after going catch-less for the first time in 185 games. Buffalo is a 2.5 favorite with an o/u of 37 points.
One team will suffer their first loss when the Jets clash with the Saints in the Superdome. Even when Drew Brees was not at his best, the Saints still rolled up 27 points against the Bills to cruise to a 20 point win. Rookie Mark Sanchez has taken New York by storm and has Jets faithful thinking there might be a replacement for Broadway Joe after all. The Jets are 7 point dogs and a 45 point total is set.
Tony Romo is back in the good graces of the Dallas media after leading the Cowboys to a Monday night win over the Panthers. The Cowboys do have health issues at the running back position. Denver has benefited from a weak schedule and a few lucky bounces for their 3 wins. Dallas is a 3 point favorite in the Mile High City with an o/u of 43.5.
St Louis is still in search of its first win of the season. They will have to play awfully well if they want win 1 to come at San Francisco. The 49ers will look to take out some frustration on the Rams after their last second loss to Minnesota. St Louis is a 9.5 point dog on the road 37.5 o/u.
Pittsburgh hosts San Diego in the Sunday night prime time game. The Steelers are coming off a loss at Cincinnati and need to pick up a W against a strong Charger team to avoid falling possibly three games behind the Ravens. San Diego is 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two. The favorite on the line has won 6 of 8 also. The Steelers are 6.5 point favorites and the total is set at 43.
The Monday night showdown needs no words. Green Bay @ Minnesota for NFC North supremacy after three weeks. Favre’s hail mary win against the 49ers could be a prelude to what is in store against his old mates. Minnesota is favored by 3.5 with a total of 45.5 points set.
