Week 5 NFL Football Picks
Written October 8, 2009 by Anthony Moretti
The first game we are going to look at is the Cincinnati Bengals (3-1 overall & 2-0 on the road) at the Baltimore Ravens (3-1 overall & 2-0 at home). The Ravens are a complete football team this year and a true Super Bowl contender despite the loss in New England last week. The Bengals however left me with more questions than answers as they struggled to beat the Browns one week after the amazing win over the Steelers. The Ravens are 8-point favorites with the total listed at 42. I’m taking the points and the UNDER here with my NFL picks.
Washington (2-2 overall & 0-2 on the road) heads to Carolina (0-3 overall & 0-1 at home). Even though the Panthers haven’t won yet, they are favorites to beat the Skins this week. Carolina showed good running game two weeks ago against the Cowboys and Albert Haynesworth has been a bust so far with only 1 sack and 9 tackles. Carolina is listed as a 3-point favorite with the total set at 37. I’m going with the Panthers and the UNDER.
Pittsburgh (2-2 overall & 0-2 on the road) heads to Detroit (1-3 overall & 1-1 at home). The Steelers have struggled on the road so far and their secondary is about to face a Detroit offense that needs to throw the ball a lot. Troy Polamalu is doubtful to face the Lions, but even without him this game shouldn’t be a big challenge for Pittsburgh. The Steelers are 10-point favorites with the over/under listed at 44. I’m going with Pitt and the OVER here.
Atlanta (2-1 overall & 0-1 on the road) heads to San Francisco (3-1 overall & 2-0 at home). The Falcons will look for their first road win in the season when they’ll face San Francisco this week. Tight end Vernon Davis seems to be getting into rhythm as he caught his third touchdown in two weeks. Atlanta had a bye last week and will try to bounce back after losing in New England two weeks ago. The 49ers are 2-point chalk with the total set at 40. I think San Fran squeaks the cover out here and the NFL odds on the total are a little low so it goes OVER.
Houston (2-2 overall & 1-0 on the road) visits Arizona (1-2 overall and 0-2 at home). This game will be shootout as both offenses love to go on the air. Houston is the 7th rank passing offense meanwhile Arizona is the 18th but we all know that the Cardinals have two of the best WR in the game a can put some huge number any given Sunday. Arizona is a 5-point favorite with the over/under listed at 40. I’m going with the Cardinals and the OVER here.
New England (3-1 overall & 0-1 on the road) head to Denver (4-0 overall & 2-0 at home) This is the game of the week. Tom Brady and the New Patriots visit the undefeated Denver Broncos. Brady finally found Randy Moss in the end zone last week and could be the first of many touchdowns this season. On the other hand the Broncos D has been outstanding but their first real challenge is about to arrive to town this week. The Patriots are 3-point chalk and the total is listed at 40. With my NFL betting this week I’ll be taking the Pats and the UNDER.
Indianapolis (4-0 overall and 2-0 on the road) head to Tennessee (0-4 overall and 0-1 at home). The way Indianapolis is playing right now it will need something better that this Titans team to knock them down. Even though this is a division rivalry game, the Titans secondary is a joke and Peyton Manning and his WRs tear up the field. The Colts are a field goal favorite and the total has been set at 45. I think you have to take Indy here and the OVER.
For the Monday night game it’s the NY Jets (3-1 overall & 1-1 on the road) heading to Miami (1-3 overall & 1-1 at home). Chad Henne made his first NFL start and the Dolphins won by the first time this season. However, they’re about to face one of the toughest defensive units in the league. The Jets are the 1-point favorites here with the over/under listed at 36. I’ll ride the Jets and the UNDER with the last of my football picks.
