Sunday October 16, 2011

1:00 PM ET |  Rams at Packers (Packers -14.5, O/U 49) – Green Bay continues to look impressive after their come-from-behind victory over the Falcons on Monday.  St. Louis has looked outmatched in all of their games this season, but they are coming off of a bye week and can hopefully give a respectable effort this week.

1:00 PM ET |  Jaguars at Steelers (Steelers -13, O/U 39) – I’m not surprised with this line with the Steelers hosting one of the worst offenses in the league.  The Jags are scoring just 11.8 points per game, completing only 50% of their pass attempts and putting up only 271 total yards per game.  By comparison, the Steelers are averaging 264 yards per game in the passing game alone.

1:00 PM ET |  Eagles at Redskins (Eagles -1, O/U 48) – Another disappointing performance from the Eagles this week.  They simply can’t hold onto the ball and their defense is not good enough to compensate for those mistakes.  After five turnovers at the Bills last week, the Eagles are now -10 in turnover margin this season.  Meanwhile, the Redskins are surprisingly 3-1 on the season and coming off of a bye week.  It’s hard to imagine them being intimidated by Philadelphia at this point in the season.

1:00 PM ET |  49ers at Lions (Lions -4.5, O/U 46) – This is a meeting between two of the biggest surprises in the NFL this year (I think a lot of people knew the Lions would be better this season, but few thought they would look this good).  The Niners feature one of the top defenses in the league, while Detroit has seemingly scored at will so far this year.  This game should tell us a lot about just how good these two are.

1:00 PM ET |  Panthers at Falcons (Falcons -6, O/U 50) – Cam Newton continues to be impressive, but he needs to start turning his great stats in to wins fast.  Atlanta has been a real disappointment so far this season and this game already feels like a must-win for them.

1:00 PM ET |  Colts at Bengals (Bengals -7, O/U 39) – Did you know the Bengals rank at the top of the league in both yards and points allowed per game?  Their offense hasn’t exactly been explosive, but their defense has kept them in all of their games so far this season.  The Colts have actually looked much better over the past two weeks and Curtis Painter finally looks comfortable in the pocket.  The problem is that Indy can’t seem to stop anyone on defense.

1:00 PM ET |  Bills at Giants (Giants -3, O/U 49.5) – The Bills racked up another impressive win last week against the Eagles.  Buffalo has been extremely fortunate with turnovers this season (+11), so I’m not entirely buying into their status as sudden contenders, but they have some time to prove me wrong.  New York continues to be a tough team to figure out, they look like the best team in the NFL one week, then like a team that could miss the playoff the next.  If anything, they should be aware that they can’t take the Bills lightly this week.

4:05 PM ET |  Texas at Ravens (Ravens -6.5, O/U 45) – Tough game for the Texans, who looked well on their way to making the playoffs before Andre Johnson went down.  Baltimore is playing at home off of their bye week, typically a very successful situation to be in for NFL teams.

4:05 PM ET |  Browns at Raiders (Raiders -6.5, O/U 44) - Off of their bye week, the Cleveland Browns run into an Oakland team that has looked tough through their first five games.  The biggest test for the Raiders will be to avoid an emotional letdown after winning in at Houston in their first game since the passing of Al Davis.

4:15 PM ET |  Cowboys at Patriots (Patriots -7, O/U 54) - Dallas will try to bounce back after a disappointing loss to the Lions two weeks ago.  They’ve had an extra week to prepare and, the way the Patriots are playing, they will need it.  New England has covered the spread in all four of their wins so far this season.  The only thing that seems capable of stopping the Pats’ offense is itself – New England had four giveaways in their lone loss at Buffalo.

4:15 PM ET |  Saints at Bucs (Saints -4.5, O/U 49) -  The Saints are hitting their stride and are now 4-1 on the season.  They’ve had some issues on defense, but their offense is one of the most explosive in the league.  Tampa needs to get back on track fast after a 3-48 drubbing at the hands of the 49ers last week.

8:20 PM ET |  Vikings at Bears (Bears -3, O/U 41.5) -  The Bears have won the last three meetings in this divisional matchup, but the Vikings have looked very good (though usually only in the first half) and have one of the league’s most explosive playmakers in Adrian Peterson.  I’m sure the odds will be posted shortly after the Monday Night Football game.  I’m guess the Bears will be favored by a field goal or so.

Monday October 17, 2011

8:30 PM ET |  Dolphins at Jets (Jets -7.5, O/U 41.5) - Miami is still looking for its first win of the season, while the Jets are looking to get the bad taste out of their mouths after a losing effort against the Patriots last week.
