Week 8 NCAA Football Predictions

Written October 29, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

The college football odds have been released for the week and now it is time to make some NCAA Football picks for week 8.

The #3 Texas Longhorns travel to Stillwater to take on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State. Colt McCoy and the Texas offense is getting it together of late. Look for plenty of points to be scored in this one. Prediction: Texas 35 Oklahoma State 24

#4 USC heads to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks in the battle for Pac 10 supremacy. The crowd will be a huge factor in this one. Can the Oregon defense stop the rushing attack of USC? That will be the deciding factor in this one. I’ll take Oregon in a mild upset. Prediction: Oregon 24 USC 20

The Thursday night game pits North Carolina against #14 Virginia Tech. North Carolina blew a huge lead last Thursday in a crushing home loss to Florida State. This time they won’t get a lead to blow. Prediction: Virginia Tech 28 North Carolina 10

#1 Florida and Georgia will meet in the largest outdoor cocktail party in Jacksonville, Florida. The Gators have played subpar football for a couple weeks in a row. The Georgia rivalry should bring out the best in the Gators. Expect their best showing in quite a while. Prediction: Florida 31 Georgia 13

#22 Mississippi travels to take on Auburn in an interesting SEC matchup. Jevan Snead and the Rebels seem to finally be hitting stride, while Auburn has lost 3 in a row. Look for the offenses to dominate here, but Mississippi has the better defense and should edge the Tigers. Prediction: Mississippi 35 Auburn 24

The #8 Iowa Hawkeyes just continue to get it done and they are now 8-0. This week they go home to play the Hoosiers of Indiana. The Hawkeyes should defeat them fairly easily, but as we have seen this season Iowa tends to like to make every game a close one. Prediction: Iowa 28 Indiana 14

The #7 Cincinnati Bearcats visit Syracuse in a Big East battle. Tony Pike’s status is still unclear, but the Bearcats are playing great football on both sides of the football right now. If Pike plays this one will probably get very ugly, but even if he doesn’t Cincy should win pretty easily. Prediction: Cincinnati 38 Syracuse 14

#5 Boise State should have a glorified scrimmage against 1-5 San Jose State. The Broncos have a great offense and a defense that is very underrated. Prediction: Boise State 45 San Jose State 10

Kansas will travel to Texas Tech in what should be a nice offensive shootout in Lubbock. Questions surround the Red Raiders quarterback position, but they’ll be able to put up plenty of points in this one. Prediction: Texas Tech 38 Kansas 27

#6 TCU put their name on the map in a big way last weekend with their huge win over BYU. This weekend they have a much easier test against UNLV.  Expect the TCU defense to get after Omar Clayton and Andy Dalton to have a field day on offense. Prediction: TCU 48 UNLV 7

The Friday night game on ESPN this week pits West Virginia against South Florida. West Virginia has shown some weaknesses in the last couple of games and I think South Florida will be ready for this one. I’ll go against most football picks and take South Florida in this one. Prediction: South Florida 24 West Virginia 17

#11 Georgia Tech has made a name for themselves in the last few weeks. This weekend they travel to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt has a tough defense, but not enough offense to keep up with Georgia Tech for the entire game. Prediction: Georgia Tech 28 Vanderbilt 13
