Week 9 College Football Betting Picks

Written October 30, 2009 by Rock Henderson

The West Virginia Mountaineers head to South Florida for an important Big East match-up that could have a lot to do with their changes of taking the conference title. WVU RB Noel Devine has been shredding opposing defenses and South Florida’s defense has suddenly become very vulnerable. RS Freshman QB BJ Daniels is going through some growing pains for the Bulls after a quick start. Play: West Virginia -3

Mississippi and Auburn will stir things up in the South when they go head to head. The Tigers have gone into a tailspin after a hot start had the Tiger faithful believing Gene Chizik was the answer to their problems. Rebel QB Jevan Snead has improved his play in the past couple weeks and should keep it going here. Play: Ole Miss -3.5

Georgia fans better enjoy the festivities before they face Florida as it could be a long four quarters for the Bulldogs. The line is practically begging you to take Georgia, but a couple lackluster performances by the Gators should have them firing on all cylinders.  Our NCAA football lines show the Gators as 15 point favorites. Play: Florida -15

Oklahoma State will throw the kitchen sink at Texas when the Horns roll into town. This is the Polks chance to take control of the Big 12 South and control their own destiny to reach the conference championship game. QB Zach Robinson has been impressive since the departure of All-American WR Dez Bryant. Look for the Cowboys to try and control time of possession with their strong running attack. Play: OSU +8.5

One of the more interesting games takes place in Lubbock this weekend when the Kansas Jayhawks and Red Raiders clash. Texas Tech is starting a red shirt freshman at QB in this game and that raises huge questions for me. Most of their quarterbacks take quite a bit of time getting familiar with the system and learning all the nuances. Kansas has a high powered offense of their own so I will happily take the points. Play: KU +6.5

The Tennessee Volunteers will hope to build on the momentum of taking the top ranked team in the nation to the wire when they face the #22 South Carolina Gamecocks. Steve Spurrier will have a few tricks up his sleeve for Lane Kiffin and the Cocks’ boast one of the top defenses in the nation. Both quarterbacks are not the most reliable and Tennessee’s defense is no slouch itself. I think this game comes down to a field goal either way. Play: South Carolina +6

The marquee match-up of this weekend’s action has to be USC @ Oregon. The Ducks have been on a roll since their opening loss at Boise State. They have dominated pretty good teams as their defense has finally caught up with their offensive ability. Oregon has won 4 out of the last 6 games at home against the Trojans and we are going to ride the wave. Play: Oregon +3.5

Other Potential Plays

Michigan State -3.5 @ Minnesota

Mississippi State +3.5 @ Kentucky

Wake Forest +7 versus Miami
