West Virginia vs Auburn College Football Picks

Written by

west-virginia-auburn-picks-091809Revenge will be on the minds of the Auburn Tigers when the Mountaineers of West Virginia come rolling into town Saturday night. Auburn was embarrassed by Pat White and company on national television a year ago in Morgantown and were defeated 34-17. Both teams have opened the season with two victories and will look to use this game as a spring board for conference play. The college football odds makers are favoring the Tigers by a touchdown at home.

West Virginia is led by QB Jarrett Brown who is finally getting his chance as a red shirt senior. The signal caller has totaled 577 yards and four touchdowns through four games and is hitting on over 75% of his passes. Brown ranks 8th nationally in total offense and hopes to throw himself into the national spotlight with a strong performance Saturday. The Mountaineers possess more of a passing attack this season compared to what they had with Pat White and defenses have to respect both the passing and running game with their 2009 team. Auburn will have to find a way to contain RB Noel Devine this year if it wants to pull out the victory. Devine ran for a career high 207 yards and a touchdown against the Tigers a year ago. West Virginia has struggled at times against their first two opponents beating Liberty by 13 and pulling away from East Carolina late for a 15 point win. They haven’t validated their top 25 ranking, but a win at Jordan-Hare Stadium will prove that the Mountaineers belong and should be taken seriously in the Big East.  If you bet on football you need to check out the current $500 bonus at BetUS, it’s as simple as that!

The Gene Chizik era has got off to a roaring start for the Auburn Tigers. Offensive coordinator Guy Malzahn has picked up where he left off at Tulsa and has the Tigers ranked fourth nationally in total offense at 572.5 yards per game. Auburn is led by the dynamic running back duo of senior Ben Tate and freshman Onterio McCalebb. McCalebb become the first freshman in Auburn’s storied running back history to rush for more than 100 yards in each of his first two games. QB Chris Todd has been efficient behind center throwing for 441 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Talented sophomore Darvin Adams has been Todd’s main target catching nine balls for 181 yards and one touchdown. The defense will be truly tested for the first time this season against the spread option attack of West Virginia. DE Anthony Coleman turned down the NFL and leads a unit that has been in bend but don’t break mode.

This match-up has all the makings of a high scoring affair that will be decided by whoever has the ball last. Auburn has the more experienced defense and their offense has been off the charts through two games. Chizik has a huge coaching advantage over Bill Stewart and will have his boys ready for this game. Seven is a large number for an un-ranked team to be favored at home, but the experts obviously see something in this Auburn team.

Play on: Auburn -7
