Western Michigan at Toledo Odds

The Toledo Rockets played in one of the most entertaining games of the entire college football season last Tuesday. A week later, they will try to redeem themselves from that 60-63 loss to Northern Illinois when they host the Western Michigan Broncos on November 8th. WMU had won four straight in this series before a 37-24 road win by the Rockets last season. Austin Dantin threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns for Toledo. Alex Carder threw for 403 yards and a score for the Broncos, but his four interceptions really cost his team a win.
According to the odds for Week 11, Toledo is an 11.5-point favorite over Western Michigan.
Toledo
The Rockets have had several close losses this season, and their 60-63 setback to Northern Illinois last week was no exception. NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish found Perez Ashford on a touchdown pass with only 19 seconds remaining to give his team the lead for good. It was his sixth touchdown pass of the night. Tommylee Lewis returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the first quarter for NIU, and the Rockets weren’t able to overcome it.
Austin Dantin had 322 passing yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions for Toledo, but it wasn’t enough. Eric Page caught all five of those scoring passes to tie Randy Moss for the MAC record for touchdown receptions in a game. The two teams combined for 1,121 yards of offense and set a conference record with 17 touchdowns, which resulted in the second-highest scoring game in MAC history. Toledo (5-4, 4-1 MAC) and Northern Illinois are tied atop the MAC West division standings, though the Huskies now own the tiebreaker.
Toledo features the No. 21 offense in the country (455.1 yards/game) and the No. 57 defense in the land (381.9 yards/game). Dantin is having a tremendous season at quarterback, completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 1,331 yards with 15 touchdowns to one interception. Terrance Owens is completing 64.3 percent of his passes for 952 yards with six touchdowns and two picks. Page is one of the top receivers in the country, catching 74 balls for 804 yards and nine scores. Morgan Williams and Adonis Thomas have combined for 972 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
Western Michigan
The Broncos were able to stay alive in the MAC West race thanks to a 45-35 victory over Ball State on October 29th. Western Michigan (5-4, 3-2 MAC) will actually have an extra three days to prepare for the Rockets with their mini-bye week. Carder threw for 404 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for another score to lead the Broncos to victory over the Cardinals. He did throw three more interceptions, but it didn’t really hurt his team.
Jordan White became Western Michigan’s all-time leading receiver in their win over Ball State. The senior finished with nine receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Tevin Drake added 85 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos. As has been the case all season, their defense didn’t play very well. Ball State racked up 555 yards for the game as these teams combined for 1,165 yards from scrimmage. The Cardinals got within a touchdown of tying the game with 5:50 remaining, but John Potter would kick a 40-yard field goal with 1:55 to play to ice it for WMU.
Western Michigan ranks 42nd in the country in total offense (421.3 yards/game), including 17th in passing (292.4 yards/game). The Broncos are just 88th in total defense (414.5 yards/game) and 105th against the run (216.2 yards/game). Carder is completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 2,457 yards with 18 touchdowns to nine interceptions. White has 95 receptions for 1,164 yards and nine scores. Drake leads all rushers with 472 yards and four touchdowns.
