Western Michigan vs. Ball State Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 24, 2008 by Jason Lowry
This Tuesday the No.14 ranked Ball State Cardinals will look to finish their season a perfect 12-0 when they take on fellow MAC opponent in the Western Michigan Broncos. Last week the Cardinals had quite the scare against Central Michigan on the road, as the Cardinals needed two 4th quarter touchdowns to win 31-24. As for the Broncos they made pretty easy work against Toledo, as they took home a 27-17 victory. Now there is more than just the Cardinals perfect season on the line, as Bronco win would put the two teams in a lock for first place in the West division. Now if you are looking to do some NCAA football betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Cardinals 10.5 point favorites at home over the Broncos at BetUS.com
The Broncos come into this one winners of 3 straight, and a win this week on the road would cripple the Cardinals fans chances of watching their team have a shot at finishing in the top 10 this season. Last week against Toledo the Broncos used a balanced offensive attack to make sure Toledo had no shot. Aaron Winchester led the way with 111 yards on the ground, but the star was quarterback Tim Hiller who had 225 yards and 3 touchdown tosses in this one. This week against Ball State the Broncos are going to have everything clicking on this side of the ball, as winning on the road is never easy, especially when the team has ran past everyone its faced at home this season.
Just as the offense has to play its hearts out, the defense will have to do the same, as Ball State has to much talent on the football field. Against Toledo the Broncos defense had some troubles, as they actually let the Rockets gain more yards in this one. Toledo had it going on the ground and through the air as well, as they had 145 rushing yards, and 213 more yards through the air. Now they only Toledo to score just 17 points, but if they let the Cardinals move the football like this, its going to be real hard for this team to win this football game. The Cardinals had their hands full last week, as they actually trailed by 7 points in the 4th quarter before Nate Davis hit Louis Johnson and Briggs Orsbon for the game tying and go ahead touchdowns. Davis had just 175 yards through the air, but the QB through for four touchdowns, and was the reason this team won this football game. Now the running game wasn’t bad, as Cardinals racked up 232 yards, as MiQuale Lewis had 177 on 28 carries and was a force the whole game long. If the offense plays like this again at home, this team better get ready to show its stuff against a real quality opponent, as they will likely land in a very good bowl game this season with a win this week.
Now if there is any concern for the Cardinals this week, it has to be their defense, as they let Central Michigan gain 466 yards of total offense, and let them complete 50% of their 3rd down conversions, which is good enough to keep almost any team in the game. The Cardinals had no answer for Central Michigan’s passing game, as Dan LeFevour threw it 44 times for 345 yards and 2 scores. Now the Cardinals come in big favorites this week, but if the defense lets Hiller have that same kind of success through the air, this game is going to be much closer than everyone expects.
