White Sox vs Royals Picks & Predictions
Written July 2, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
Talk about a team that’s hot, The White Sox have won eight of their last ten games and have done it in every which way, star short stop Alexei Ramirez has finally started to get his act together as he now has 10 homers and 38 RBIs while hitting .265. Seven of those homers and 15 of those RBIs came in June. Jermaine Dye has been awesome hitting .294 with 18 homers and 48 RBIs while Paul Konerko has been solid contributing 13 home runs, 49 RBIs and hitting .290 from the dish. Jim Thome still swings a power bat while rookie Gordon Beckham is a future star who has given this team a major boost. On the mound for the Chi Sox is veteran ace Mark Buehrle who is 7-2 with a 3.26 ERA. This start is tailor made for Mark to dominate. While his home/away numbers are very similar, he is much more effective during night games rather then day, to be precise, he’s been a perfect 5-0 with a 3.23 ERA. He has had a decent June going 1-1 in five starts with a 4.35 ERA. In two starts against the Royals this year he has picked up two no decisions with a combined 3.65 ERA in those games. With the way Chicago has been swinging the bat they should have no problem taking the first game of this series. Although they are traveling from Cleveland to Kansas City overnight with no rest day, the hot sticks and Buehrle’s stout pitching will be enough.. Look for Alexei Ramirez to have a monster night as he seems to have officially gotten hot. With the White Sox in contention these games will be important. The Night Warrior Mark Buehrle is, his streak won’t be in jeopardy tonight. Thursday’s baseball lines are up and they show the White Sox at -145 against the Royals and the Over/Under set at 9 runs.
The Kansas City Royals are 33-43 on the year and have lost four of their last six games. They have scored four runs or less in nine of their last 10 games. In layman’s terms, they can’t hit. They do not have one every day player that is hitting .300 or better nor do they have anybody with 35 or more RBIs. Miguel Olivo is the team leader in homers with 12 while Billy Butler, Jose Guillen and David Dejesus all are tied for the team lead in RBIs with 34 each. As a team they hit .250 and the argument can be made that as a group the Royals are the worst hitting team in the American league. On the mound for Kansas City is journeyman Bruce Chen who in his only start went 6.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits against the Pirates who aren’t even on the same level as Chicago. Chen did not pitch in 2008 and after tonight’s start I don’t project him pitching much longer in 2009. There is not nearly enough fire power in the Royals lineup for them to be competitive tonight. The defining statistic, The Kansas City Royals are 20-22 at home while the Chicago White Sox are 20-18 on the road. Catch my drift?
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Chicago White Sox are 5-13 in their last Thursday night games. That means just about nothing. They have won four in a row and six of their last seven. The Royals are 4-9 in their last 13 games. In the head to head area, the Chi Sox are 20-6 in the last 26 games against the Royals when Buehrle starts. Easy money here. We are going for another double up here, read it and weep.
Jordan’s Picks: Chicago White Sox -145 (BEST BET) & White Sox -1.5 Runs (+110)
We took a night off yesterday as nothing intrigued me. The BEST BET streak is at seven in a row as the Twins took care of the Royals back on Monday night. Our overall winning streak came to an end at 13 as Marquis silenced the Dodgers. However, another night of profit as the BEST BET hit. The money accrued has begun to reach alarming highs with no signs of slowing down at all. Lets keep knocking them dead.
