World Series Odds: Start of 2008 Playoffs

The action gets started at 3 PM EST when the Philadelphia Phillies host the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers had to battle back over the past week to get past the New York Mets, while the Phillies were just far enough ahead of the Mets to win the NL East without a lot of stress closing out the season. The odds are set on the Phillies -180, with the Brewers +150. That means if you think the Phillies will win the series then for every $18 you bet, you will win $10 (plus your $18 back). If you want to bet on the Brewers then every $10 will get you $15 of profit

The next game on today’s triple header slate is the Chicago Cubs playing host to the LA Dodgers at 6 PM EST. The Cubs are the biggest favorites to win their series with the Dodgers, and fans are hoping they won’t disappoint. You have to bet $23.50 to win $10 if you think Chicago will advance, and a $10 bet on the Dodgers will net you $18.50 if they make it to the NL Championship Series.

The last game on Wednesday night takes place when the Boston Red Sox head to California to take on the LA Angels. This is the tightest of the opening day series, with the Angels odds set at -130, with the Red Sox getting +110 odds. Can Boston repeat as champions without Manny Ramirez? The odds makers don’t appear to think so, but they aren’t really giving a lot of credit to the team that led the American League in wins either.

The odds on the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are not yet posted, but should be shortly. The White Sox are pretty hot coming into their series, and could have a chance to make another run through the playoffs. Tampa doesn’t have a lot of experience, but this team hasn’t been given any credit all year long and look where they are.
