2011 World Series Predictions

Written by

I have decided which teams I believe will make the MLB postseason in 2011. Now it’s time to give my predictions on how the rest will play out from the Division Series, to the League Championship Series and all the way through the World Series. Be sure to check out my MLB predictions to see how I came to these conclusions.

Divisional Series:

Texas Rangers at Boston Red Sox: (Red Sox Advance) – Not having Cliff Lee to carry them in 2011 will make for an early exit for the Rangers this time around. Boston not only has the stronger rotation to get through a 5-game series, they also have the better lineup.

New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers: (Yankees Advance) – Detroit just doesn’t have the postseason experience or the personnel to get past a team like the Yankees. CC Sabathia should be good for two wins, and I like Phil Hughes or AJ Burnett to come through with the other to give the Yankees the edge on the mound. They will also have an advantage at the plate with a more complete lineup from top to bottom.

San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia Phillies: (Phillies Advance) – Looking to revenge their disappointing NLCS loss to the Giants, the Phillies get their payback. They now have a better starting staff than San Francisco, and also clearly the better lineup. San Francisco won’t get the same heroics they got from Cody Ross last year.

Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers: (Braves Advance) – This series is likely to go five games, but in the end I really like the depth and experience of the Braves rotation to pull through. Tim Hudson and Derek Lowe know how to win in the postseason, and while Zach Greinke and Yovani Gallardo are solid at the top for Milwaukee, they will likely fold under the postseason pressure. Tommy Hanson is the wild card as the Braves No. 3 and will get a win in his start.

League Championship Series:

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox: (Red Sox Advance) – Boston’s offseason spending will pay off in a big way as they beat their hated rivals. New York’s rotation lacks depth, while the Red Sox will be able to throw out Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Josh Beckett and John Lackey. Boston also has the better lineup from top to bottom with MVP candidates lining their 2-6 hitters.

Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies: (Phillies Advance) – While it will turn out to be a very productive season for the Braves, they just won’t have enough to overcome the Phillies ridiculous rotation. I would take Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt over any of the starters the Braves will be sending to the mound. Philly has the more potent lineup as well, so don’t be surprised to see this series end in four or five games.

World Series:

Boston Red Sox vs. Philadelphia Phillies: (Phillies Win) – This will turn out to be one of the most anticipated World Series in the history of baseball. It’s a match-up of superstars across the board, and both teams will be rewarded for their bold moves in the offseason. While I give the edge to the Red Sox at the plate, I have to go with the pitching of the Phillies to shine through in the end. A World Series title will solidify their rotation as perhaps the best of all-time.
