2012 World Series Predictions

I have taken a look at each individual team and made my predictions on how I believe each division will shape up this year. Now it’s time to give away my 2012 postseason predictions. I’ll give my series-by-series predictions from the division series all the way to the World Series. If you are interested in checking out where I have all 30 teams projected to finish this season, check out my 2012 MLB predictions for a division-by-division breakdown.
Divisional Series:
Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers: (Tigers Advance) -Â The addition of Prince Fielder makes the Tigers offense just as dangerous as the Red Sox. The difference in this series will be the starting pitching of the Tigers, who will be able to throw out Justin Verlander in game 1 and game 5 if needed.
Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Angels: (Angels Advance) - If you like pitching, this series figures to be one of the most entertaining matchups of the first round. The Rays and Angeles arguably feature two of the top rotations in the American League. Were looking at the possibility of Jered Weaver vs. David Price, Dan Haren vs. James Shields, and C.J. Wilson vs Matt Moore. With Albert Pujols in town, the Angles have the slight advantage offensively, and will advance to the ALCS.
Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants: (Giants Advance) – The Braves overcome their late season collapse of 2011 by making it back to the postseason, but I don’t think they will have what it takes to get past the Giants. Both teams have outstanding pitching staffs, which should make for a evenly matched series. When it comes down to it, my money is on Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and Madison Bumgarner to carry San Francisco into the NLCS.
Milwaukee Brewers at Philadelphia Phillies: (Phillies Advance) – The Brewers have enough to win the NL Central, but will be no match for the Phillies. Without Fielder in the middle of the lineup, Milwaukee won’t be able to score enough to beat the likes of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels. This is most likely a 3-0 sweep by Philadelphia.
League Championship Series:
Los Angeles Angels at Detroit Tigers: (Tigers Advance) – This very well could be the two best teams in baseball doing battle in the ALCS. This has a 7-game battle written all over it. The Tigers don’t quite have the starting pitching depth to match that of the Angels, but they have the best pitcher in the AL and an offense that can score regardless on who takes the mound for the opposing team. I give the slight edge to the Tigers in this one, but I could just as easily see the Angels playing in the World Series.
Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants: (Giants Advance) – The Phillies and Giants have the two best starting rotations in the National League, and will once again meet in the NLCS. These two teams last faced off in the 2010 Championship Series, where the Giants shocked Philadelphia in six games. I believe the Giants will once again advance past the Phillies, expect this time it won’t be quite as big of a surprise.
World Series:
San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers (Detroit Wins) – The Giants return to the World Series just two years after winning it all. The Tigers last made it to the World Series in 2006, but haven’t won one since 1984. That is all about to change for the Tigers this year. I look for Detroit to put an end to their World Series drought in convincing fashion. The Giants will put up a fight, but in the end I have the Tigers winning in 6 games.
