Wyoming vs. UNLV Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Get ready for some more NCAA football action, as the UNLV Rebels host the Wyoming Cowboys in Mountain West Conference action. Now neither team has a shot in the division, and with both teams sitting at 4-6 and just two games remaining it’s unlikely even if one of these teams win out and go 6-6 they will make a bowl game, but there is no question a 6-6 finish and no Bowl game is way better than finishing the season with more losses than wins. Both teams come into this one off a win, as Wyoming shocked Tennessee on the road 13-7, while the Rebels took care of business at home against New Mexico 27-20. The oddsmakers aren’t thinking this one will even be that close, as UNLV comes in 9 point favorites over the Cowboys at BetUS.com
Wyoming is winners of 2 straight, and there weren’t many that thought they had a shot on the road against Tennessee, even though the Volunteers are having one of their worst seasons in a long time. The Cowboys led the whole way, as they jumped out 13-0 in the first half and found a way to hold on for the win. The offense had just one score in the first quarter, when Chris Stutzriem connected with Greg Genho on a 4 yard touchdown pass. The Cowboys had just 268 yards of total offense, and most of them came from running back Devin Moore, as he just missed the 100 yard mark with 98 yards on 32 carries. Its going to be tough for the Cowboys to have the same kind of numbers and take home the win this week, but if the defense plays like it did, another upset might be in the makings.

A lot of credit needs to be given to the Cowboys defense, as they pretty much shutdown Tennessee’s offense allowing just 7 points, and what proved to be the game winning interception for a touchdown by Ward Dobbs in the 2nd quarter. The Cowboys gave up just 219 yards of total offense, and a similar performance this week, could lead to another big win on the road. Bet Wyoming +9 at BetUS.com
Now even though the Rebels might be the better team its hard to figure out why they are getting so many points, as they picked up their first win in 7 games last week, so it’s not like this unit is clicking. Last week the Rebels were out gained by New Mexico by over 120 yards. The run game was little to nothing, as the Rebels had just 55 yards on 32 carries, but the passing game picked up the slack, as Mike Clausen threw it 34 times for 203 yards and 2 scores. This offense has to run the ball better this week, but its hard telling if they will be able to against a Cowboys defense that is starting to play much better.
The Rebels defense had the biggest play of the game, as Rodelin Anthony returned a block punt 11 yards for a touchdown in the 4th quarter that gave the Rebels a 10 point lead and wound up winning them the game. Now this unit can’t expect to win many football games when it gives up 232 yards on the ground as it did last week. The defense did have 2 big interceptions and winning the turnover battle is likely the key for this team to win and cover against the Cowboys. Bet UNLV -9 at BetUS.com
