Xavier West Virginia Odds, Picks, & Predictions

We are just a couple days away from some more exciting NCAA Tournament action as the field has been trimmed from 65 to 16. We are just one weekend of action away from our Final Four teams of the year. This Thursday action is set to move to Phoenix, AZ in the West Region, with #3 Xavier taking on #7 West Virginia.#3 Xavier has taken care of business so far in the tournament, after many people believed they were the weakest # 3 team of them all. They beat #14 Georgia in round one by 12 and then took care of a solid #6 Purdue team in round 2. Xavier took home the Atlantic 10 conference championship pretty easily, and while the conference isn’t normally much to talk about, it was pretty solid this season as it sent 3 teams to the NCAA Tournament. The Musketeers come at you with a balanced scoring attack. They got 5 guys averaging in double figures all with in 2-points of one another. The main focus on the court for this team is on the defensive side of things, and if they can get the offense rolling they are a scary team to face.

#7 West Virginia has had a little tougher road to the Sweet 16, they first had to take care of #10 Arizona in the always-difficult 7 vs. 10 battle. Arizona can come in one night playing like a top 10 team then the next look like a team that doesn’t even belong in the top 25. The Mountaineers were able to hold off Arizona by 10-points, and moved on to face #2 Duke in the second round. This was wear West Virginia really showed it came to play as it took down the Blue Devils with an impressive second half comeback to win by 6. Junior F Joe Alexander, who comes in averaging a team leading 16.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG, leads the Mountaineers on the floor. He has a pretty solid supporting cast as three other players come in averaging in double digits, with the next best being fellow junior G Alex Ruoff who comes in averaging 13.8 PPG. The keys to the Mountaineers success as a team is their ability to shoot the long ball on the offensive side of things, and their ability to play lock down man to man defense on the other side of the ball.

West Virginia -1

While we weren’t surprised that the spread was so close we really thought Xavier would come in being the favorite. Either way we think West Virginia is going to win the game, so it makes no sense not picking them to cover. We really think that this team could be a very dangerous team the rest of the way and will give whoever it faces all it can handle. Another reason to jump on the Mountaineer bandwagon is that they are 12-0 ATS in NCAA Tournament games. So hopefully the sportsbooks get it wrong again and we take home a nice victory here.

Under 136

While the betting public is all over the over in this game, we are here to tell you not so fast on that wager. This game is going to be all about defense, and while we don’t think that this is going to go way under we still believe that it won’t surpass the total of 136. So while your head is saying take the over, listen to us and bet the under and see your money double.

Final Score - West Virginia 68 - Xavier 65
